Job Purpose
The Head of Compliance & MLRO is responsible for ensuring the company maintains full compliance with all regulatory requirements, particularly in relation to financial crime, anti-money laundering (AML), and financial sanctions. This role serves as the first point of contact for regulators and internal stakeholders regarding compliance, risk management, and suspicious activity investigations.
Key Responsibilities
- Regulatory Liaison:
- Act as the primary point of contact for regulators and oversee all regulatory communications.
- Ensure timely submission of reports and adherence to regulatory timelines.
- Compliance Oversight:
- Ensure that the company remains compliant with all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies at all times.
- Identify, monitor, and implement new or updated regulatory requirements, with a focus on financial crime prevention.
- Policy & Procedure Management:
- Develop, review, and maintain compliance and risk documentation, controls, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure the firm’s AML Policy, Financial Sanctions Policy, and related procedures are up-to-date and effectively communicated.
- Risk & Incident Management:
- Act as the first point of contact for internal advice on compliance-related issues and complaints.
- Track potential risks, areas of concern, and manage corrective action plans for incident management.
- Financial Crime & Suspicious Activity Monitoring:
- Oversee the investigation, review, and resolution of all activities and transactions identified as potentially suspicious.
- Monitor customer risk, with clear reporting and escalation procedures for high-risk clients.
- Manage, and where necessary, conduct high-profile or sensitive investigations into compliance or financial crime matters.
- Training & Awareness:
- Promote a culture of compliance and ethical conduct throughout the organization.
- Provide guidance and training to staff on compliance, AML, and financial crime prevention measures.
- Reporting:
- Prepare regular compliance and risk reports for senior management and regulators.
- Provide insight and recommendations to mitigate risks and improve internal controls.

Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong understanding of FCA, HMRC, and AML regulations.
- Experience in AML, compliance, and regulatory reporting within financial services.
- Strong analytical skills for compliance monitoring and due diligence.
- Excellent communication and training skills.
- Leadership experience with the ability to influence and train staff at all levels.
- Professional certifications (e.g., ACAMS, ICA, or equivalent) preferred.
