🚀 Contract Staff Mobile Engineer | Agentic AI | Mobile Transformation | Remote

📍 2 days a week (Tarporley)
đź“… Initial 8-week contract / pilot
🚀 Immediate start - £700 a day outside IR35

I’m working with a PE-backed UK business embarking on a significant technology transformation, with an immediate need for a Principal / Staff-level Mobile Engineer to lead an initial production pilot.

This is not about hiring someone who can simply claim they "use AI".

We’re looking for an experienced engineer who has led major technology change before, whether that has been cloud adoption, microservices, platform modernisation or new engineering operating models, and is now back at the coal face experimenting seriously with AI-native and agentic software development.

The Challenge

The business currently maintains separate applications across web, iOS and Android.

The ambition is to establish a modern multi-platform architecture and test whether a senior engineer + agentic tooling can materially change the speed and economics of rebuilding the product.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The initial 8-week production pilot will involve:

  • Defining the target multi-platform architecture
  • Rebuilding a valuable end-to-end customer journey
  • Using AI agents throughout the engineering lifecycle, with humans providing architecture, intent and judgement
  • Shipping to production early and incrementally
  • Challenging whether incremental replacement or a larger rewrite is the right approach
  • Improving the wider engineering foundations as constraints emerge
  • Working closely with an existing Tech Lead and transferring capability into the team

Who We’re Looking For

You’ll likely be operating at Staff / Principal Engineer level and able to combine deep engineering expertise with product and commercial thinking.

You should be able to explain not only what you built, but why it mattered to the customer or business.

  • Led meaningful engineering or architectural transformation before
  • Strong software engineering and system architecture fundamentals
  • Built customer-facing products, ideally across mobile/web environments
  • Experience influencing technical direction beyond their own individual contribution
  • A pragmatic approach to modernising legacy systems
  • Genuine hands-on fluency with tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or similar agentic development workflows
  • Strong opinions on how AI changes software delivery, backed up by practical experimentation
  • The gravitas to challenge senior stakeholders and shape how an engineering organisation works.

You do not need to have spent years calling yourself an "AI Engineer". The priority is an excellent engineer who understands the potential of agentic software development and is actively pushing what these tools can do.
