Role Description

The Mobile Engineer role at APL Aerial Platforms Ltd is a full-time, on-site position based in Wigan. The Mobile Engineer will perform routine and reactive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a variety of powered access platforms and telehandlers, ensuring equipment safety, reliability, and compliance with relevant standards. Day-to-day tasks include:

  • Attending customer sites to inspect and service machinery
  • Identifying and resolving mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults
  • Completing accurate service reports and documentation
  • Collaborating with the operations team to prioritize jobs
  • Supporting colleagues with technical issues
  • Providing professional, customer-focused service

The role may also involve:

  • Assisting with pre-delivery inspections
  • Conducting equipment checks before hire
  • Offering occasional out-of-hours support to minimize downtime for customers

Qualifications

  • CAP qualification
  • Relevant technical qualification (e.g., NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent) in mechanical, electrical, or plant engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience maintaining and repairing powered access platforms, telehandlers, or similar plant/equipment, with strong fault-finding skills.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations, safe working practices, and compliance standards in industrial and construction environments.
  • Valid UK driving license and ability to travel to customer sites in the region.
  • Effective communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and manage time and priorities.
