Senior Mobile Software Engineer (iOS & Android)
Salary: £55,000 - £75,000
Location: Manchester, 3 days per week onsite
About the Role
We are partnering with an innovative technology business that develops digital products used by a large and growing user base. As part of continued growth, they are looking for a Senior Mobile Software Engineer to help shape the future of their mobile and web platforms.
This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll contribute across the full software development lifecycle, working on both native and cross-platform mobile applications while supporting broader software engineering initiatives. You'll collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to build scalable, secure, and user-focused solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership across mobile application architecture, development, and modernisation initiatives.
- Support the development and maintenance of both iOS and Android applications.
- Contribute to long-term platform and technology strategy.
- Optimise application performance, reliability, and user experience.
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver new features and enhancements.
- Develop, test, and deploy scalable, maintainable, and secure software solutions.
- Contribute across mobile, web, and backend technology stacks where required.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and engineering best practices.
- Mentor and support other engineers within the team.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends.

Required Skills & Experience
Essential
- Strong commercial experience developing mobile applications for both iOS and Android.
- Strong JavaScript and TypeScript development experience.
- Commercial experience with React and React Native.
- Experience with modern React Native tooling and ecosystems.
- Understanding of native mobile development and platform concepts across iOS and Android.
- Experience investigating and resolving native application issues.
- Knowledge of Swift, Objective-C, Kotlin, or Java.
- Experience integrating REST APIs and managing asynchronous application state.
- Understanding of component-based architecture and reusable UI development.
- Experience writing automated tests for frontend and mobile applications.
- Knowledge of mobile application lifecycles, app deployment, and release processes.
- Strong understanding of responsive and adaptive user interface design.
- Experience working within Agile development environments.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Desirable
- Experience with Expo, Vite, Vitest, or similar modern development tooling.
- Exposure to legacy mobile technologies and application migrations.
- Experience with backend development technologies such as Node.js, Python, Java, C#, or PHP.
- Knowledge of relational and non-relational databases.
- Experience developing or consuming GraphQL APIs.
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and containerisation.
- Experience working within regulated industries or handling sensitive data.
- Exposure to AI-powered applications or Large Language Model integrations.
- Previous technical leadership or mentoring experience.
