Are you an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Technician looking for a rewarding role where your skills make a real difference?
Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to join our Estates and Facilities team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the safe and effective operation of essential hospital infrastructure, helping to create an environment where outstanding patient care can thrive.
Working within a highly skilled team of engineering professionals, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing and improving a wide range of mechanical plant, equipment and building services across our hospital sites.
Please note that this role is not eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK for the full duration of the post.
Main duties of the job
As part of our Estates team, you will play a key role in ensuring that critical engineering systems remain safe, reliable and fully compliant.
You will play a vital role in ensuring our engineering systems, plant and equipment remain safe, reliable and compliant, enabling the delivery of exceptional patient care across the Trust.
Experience Or Knowledge Of The Following Would Be Advantageous
- HTM 01 – Decontamination
- HTM 03 – Heating and Ventilation
- HTM 04 – Water Systems
- Building Management Systems (BMS)
- Mechanical plant and building services maintenance
- Statutory compliance requirements and safe systems of work

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Servicing Thermostatic Mixing Valves (TMVs) and carrying out temperature monitoring.
- Undertaking plumbing tasks, including sink and tap installations.
- Performing planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and statutory planned maintenance (SPM).
- Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs on a range of engineering plant and equipment.
- Supporting the operation and maintenance of critical hospital systems, including water treatment and steam systems.
- Troubleshooting and resolving faults on Building Management Systems (BMS).
- Calibrating and maintaining mechanical and electrical installations.
- Liaising with departments across the Trust to coordinate maintenance activities and minimise disruption.
- Producing technical reports and condition assessments.
- Assisting with engineering improvement projects and lifecycle planning.
- Maintaining accurate maintenance records and compliance documentation.
- Participating in the on-call rota and providing out-of-hours support when required.
- Supporting the development of apprentices and colleagues through knowledge sharing and mentoring.
- Working across Frimley Health sites as required.

Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Level 3 City & Guilds Craft or NVQ equivalents in Electrical Installation/Maintenance or equivalent experience.
- IT Literate
- Evidence of good written and communication skills for effective working relationships throughout the organisation.
- Ability to cope with demanding scenarios.
- Good organisational and communication skills and ability to address and develop solutions to problems.
- Ability and willingness to undertake emergency-situation repairs.
Desirable criteria
- NHS experience
- Knowledge of HTMs
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Level 3 City & Guilds Craft or NVQ equivalents in electrical installation/maintenance or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
- IEE 18th Edition
- Gas Safe registered/ trained
- ONC
- Water bylaws
- Lift Trained
- Nurse call systems trained
- BMS Understanding/ qualification
- Hydro pool trained
- Decontamination control, trained (autoclaves)
- Medical gas trained
Special Requirements
Essential criteria
- Be available for out of hours/on-call duties
- Be able to travel between Trust sites when required
- Be able to work overtime at short notice.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Prior experience in an engineering service
- Experience in training colleagues in an Estates department
- Experience working in the building trades
- Experience working in large industrial/commercial environments
- Experience in the maintenance of engineering service and fault finding within a similar organisation or similar size and complexity organisation.
