Role Purpose
At Holt JCB, the final preparation and inspection of a machine is one of the most important stages of our Customer journey.
The Mobile PDI Engineer is responsible for ensuring every machine is fully tested, correctly specified, immaculately presented and ready for customer collection or delivery to an exceptional standard.
This is a high-trust role requiring outstanding attention to detail, personal pride and the ability to work independently. You will effectively provide the final quality sign-off before a machine reaches our customer.
Our expectation is simple: every machine should leave us in a condition that we are proud to put the Holt JCB name against.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Delivery Inspection & Testing
- Carry out comprehensive pre-delivery inspections on JCB machines.
- Hot test machines to ensure they operate correctly and perform as expected.
- Check all fluid and oil levels and identify any leaks, defects or abnormalities.
- Test electrical systems, lights, warning systems, controls and machine functions.
- Check machine attachments and ancillary equipment where applicable.
- Identify defects or concerns and ensure they are appropriately reported and resolved before release.
- Complete required PDI documentation and checklists accurately.
Customer Specification & Final Quality Control
- Review each machine against the customer’s original order and specification.
- Confirm that options, attachments and accessories match what the customer has purchased.
- Ensure required documentation, manuals and associated items are present where applicable.
- Identify specification discrepancies before the machine is released.
- Take responsibility for the final presentation and quality of the machine.
- Never knowingly release a machine that does not meet the required Holt JCB standard.
Machine Presentation
- Clean and valet machines internally and externally to an exceptional standard.
- Ensure cabs, glass, controls, bodywork, steps and access areas are clean and professionally presented.
- Remove preparation materials, labels or residues as required.
- Ensure the finished machine creates the right first impression for the customer.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Working Style
This is a mobile role and a company vehicle will be provided.
PDI Engineers will be centrally managed but trusted to work independently across the business. As a result, reliability, communication and personal accountability are fundamental to the position.
You will be expected to organise your workload effectively, communicate any issues promptly and maintain the same high standard regardless of location, machine type or workload.
What We Are Looking For
We Are Looking For People Who:
- Have exceptional attention to detail.
- Take genuine pride in the quality and presentation of their work.
- Can be trusted to work independently without compromising standards.
- Have a strong mechanical and practical understanding of plant and machinery.
- Are confident carrying out machine operational and functional checks.
- Are methodical and comfortable working to detailed checklists and processes.
- Recognise when something is not right and take ownership of resolving or escalating it.
- Are reliable, organised and professional.
- Understand the importance of representing both Holt JCB and the JCB brand.
- Treat every customer’s machine as if it were their own.
Previous experience with construction, agricultural or plant machinery would be advantageous, although attitude, attention to detail and personal standards will be particularly important.
A full UK driving licence is required.
Why This Role Matters

That makes this a critical role within Holt JCB.
The quality of your work directly influences the customer’s first impression of their machine and their perception of Holt JCB and JCB.
