Description
We are looking for an experienced Mobile Plant / Tool Fitter Mechanic to join our Plant & Transport team.
This is a field-based role covering the South West and surrounding areas, including Bristol, Dorset, Berkshire and neighbouring counties. You’ll start and finish from home, travelling across the region to maintain and repair OCU’s fleet of plant, machinery and vehicles.
We offer a very competitive package, company vehicle, overtime paid at time and a half, PAYE or CIS options and a permanent position with an established and growing business.
You’ll be responsible for planned servicing, fault finding, repairs and reactive breakdowns across a varied fleet including heavy plant, dump trucks, lorries, vans and general fleet vehicles.
We’re looking for someone who is confident working independently, takes pride in their work and can keep equipment safe, reliable and ready for our operational teams.

What You'll Do
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance and servicing.
- Diagnose faults and complete mechanical repairs across plant and vehicles.
- Respond to reactive maintenance and breakdowns across the region.
- Maintain heavy plant, dump trucks, lorries, vans and general fleet vehicles.
- Carry out field-based and workshop repairs as required.
- Use technical manuals, engineering diagrams and manufacturer specifications.
- Maintain accurate records of servicing, inspections and repairs.
- Work closely with operational teams to minimise equipment downtime.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and to the required quality standards.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and care of company assets.
- Comply with OCU SHEQ policies, procedures and statutory requirements.

Essential
What you'll bring
- Proven experience in plant maintenance, mechanical fitting or a similar position.
- Strong practical mechanical and fault-finding skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Own tools.
- Willingness to travel across the South West.
- Reliable, practical and safety-conscious approach.
Desirable
- Experience maintaining heavy plant and construction equipment.
- Experience with dump trucks, excavators, loaders, telehandlers or similar.
- HGV or heavy vehicle maintenance experience.
- NVQ or equivalent mechanical/engineering qualification.
- Previous construction, utilities or infrastructure experience.
