Role Description
The Mobile Plant Mechanic is a full-time, on-site role based in Newcastle Upon Tyne. This role involves diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs, and performing routine maintenance on a range of plant machinery and equipment at customer sites and depots.

Responsibilities

- Inspecting and servicing hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems
- Completing maintenance records
- Ensuring equipment meets safety and compliance standards
- Responding to breakdowns
- Planning and prioritizing workloads
- Liaising with hire desk and site teams to minimize downtime
- Keeping tools and service vehicles in good order
- Following all health and safety procedures
- Providing professional customer service during site visits
Qualifications
- Strong mechanical and hydraulic maintenance skills for plant machinery, with the ability to diagnose and repair faults efficiently.
- Solid understanding of electrical systems and basic diagnostic tools relevant to mobile plant and construction equipment.
- Competence in reading technical manuals, service schedules, and parts diagrams, and completing accurate service documentation.
- Good problem-solving abilities, able to work independently on-site and make safe, practical decisions under time pressure.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with customers, site personnel, and internal teams in a clear and professional manner.
- Full valid driving license suitable for travel to customer sites; experience in field-based or mobile service work is advantageous.
- Relevant vocational qualification or apprenticeship in plant maintenance, heavy vehicle engineering, or mechanical engineering is preferred.
- Commitment to health and safety best practices, with familiarity with industry regulations and safe working procedures.
- Previous experience in plant hire, construction equipment, or related sectors is beneficial.
