PPL (Progress Plant Ltd) is Leicester’s leading independent plant hire company, operating from a purpose-built depot in central Leicester for over 40 years. The company supplies plant hire, small tools, and attachments across the Midlands and nationwide, with a strong emphasis on health, safety, and compliance. Being independently owned allows PPL to offer flexible, responsive solutions tailored to client needs. The team maintains up-to-date product knowledge to provide modern, fit-for-purpose plant equipment for a wide range of projects.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Mobile Plant Mechanic role based in Leicester. The Mobile Plant Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a variety of plant equipment, small tools, and attachments both in the depot and on client sites. Day-to-day tasks include:

Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience maintaining and repairing mobile plant, construction machinery, or heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical systems used in plant and tools.
  • Understanding of health, safety, and compliance requirements in a plant hire or construction environment.
  • Ability to diagnose faults, interpret technical manuals, and use appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Relevant vocational qualification or apprenticeship in plant maintenance, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • Full UK driving licence; ability to travel to client sites as required.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage workload, maintain service records, and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, with a customer-focused approach when dealing with clients and colleagues.
  • Previous experience in plant hire, construction, or a similar industry is highly advantageous.
