Service Technician (Tugs & GSE Equipment) – Rugby, UK
Reports to: Field Operations Manager
Direct Reports: None
Location: Rugby, UK
About the Role
The Service Technician performs a variety of routine servicing, inspections, and repairs for Distribution Tractors, Ro-Ro Tractors, sea port equipment (GSE), and aircraft equipment (GSE only), as well as other manufacturer products on customer premises when required. Key tasks include:
- Conducting visual and operational checks to identify worn, dirty, or maladjusted parts.
- Utilising technical manuals, diagnostic techniques, and test equipment to locate and repair inoperable defects.
- Completing thorough accident damage inspections and producing detailed written reports to assist in repairs.
- Working largely without direct supervision, adhering to all company and site Health & Safety regulations at all times.
Responsibilities
- Reppresent Company Standards: Act as a face of Terberg DTS Service Department, ensuring the highest standards in appearance, professionalism, and technical ability.
- Follow Instructions & Procedures: Adhere strictly to oral or electronic work instructions from the Service Department.
- Determine & Implement Repair Techniques: Select appropriate methods, tools, materials, and safety measures (e.g., eye protection, PPE).
- Customer Approval & Documentation: Obtain customer sign-offs (with purchase order references) before finalising work.
- Administrative & Inventory Management:
- Complete admin protocols accurately.
- Maintain up-to-date records of vehicle/spare parts inventory.
- Compliance with Manufacturers & Safe Systems:
- Perform repairs/maintenance in line with manufacturer guidelines and Terberg DTS Group Safe Working Procedures.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Uphold the Company Health & Safety Policy, promoting safety at all times.
- Continuous Learning: Attend mandatory training programmes, seminars, or courses as required.
- Equipment Care: Ensure company vehicles and tools remain clean, safe, and secure.
- Mobility & Communication: Use mobile phones and other communication tools in compliance with legislation.
- Flexible & Proactive Work:
- Collaborate with teams on new projects and operational initiatives.
- Work additional hours (including shift work/travelling on or off-site, accommodating unsociable hours).
- Supporting Roles: Carry out additional tasks as needed to support business operations.

Essential Knowledge
- Current Road Traffic Legislation: Knowledge of speed limits, vehicle weight restrictions, driver’s hours regulations.
- Maintenance Compliance: Application of preventative maintenance standards aligned with manufacturer recommendations and Terberg DTS Safe Systems.
- Terberg Tugs: In-depth understanding of product specifications and repair procedures.
- Diagnostic Tools & Systems: Familiarity with latest diagnostic equipment and software.

Requirements
- Qualifications:
- City & Guilds Level 3 (Vehicle Mechanical & Electronic Systems – Maintenance & Repair) or an equivalent qualification.
- Experience:
- Substantial hands-on experience in auto electric fault diagnostics and repairs, including heavy goods/specialist vehicle training.
- Proven use of electronic diagnostic equipment.
- Licence & Certifications:
- Valid UK driving licence (essential for site travel and work mobility).
