Mechanical Engineer Advisor (Distribution Tractors & Port Equipment)

Overview

This role involves performing routine servicing, inspections, and repairs on a variety of sea port equipment, aircraft equipment (GSE only), and other manufacturer’s products—either at customer premises or in controlled workshop environments.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting visual/operational checks to identify worn, dirty, or malfunctioning parts.
  • Conducting technical diagnostics using manuals and test equipment.
  • Assessing and repairing damaged machines, producing accurate reports for subsequent fixes.
  • Undertaking duties independently, adhering to Health & Safety regulations at all times.

Key Responsibilities

Customer & Business Representation

  • Represent Terberg DTS Service Department professionally in the field.
  • Maintain (high appearance, technical skill, and conduct standards).
  • Work effectively as part of the Service Department.

Field & Repair Work

  • Execute tasks and assignments based on either oral or electronic instructions.
  • Determine appropriate repair techniques, materials, and safety measures (e.g., eye protection, clothing).
  • Obtain customer confirmation & sign-off for completed work.
  • Conduct administrative/inventory procedures to track used parts.
  • Carry out maintenance/repairs per manufacturer’s instructions and in-compliance with company’s Safe System of Work.

Compliance & Training

  • Adhere to company-wide Health & Safety policies.
  • Attend mandatory training courses/seminars.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Maintain all company resources (vehicles, equipment) in a clean, secure, and presentable condition.
  • Use company-issued mobile phones within current UK regulations.
  • Collaborate with other departments on projects.
  • Be available for overtime, unscheduled call-outs, and travel (on/off site with/without facilities).
  • Assume duty-related tasks as required.

Key Knowledge Required

  • Awareness of current UK road traffic regulations (speed limits, weight constraints, driver hours).
  • Proactive preventive maintenance techniques, aligned with manufacturer specifications.
  • Technical familiarity with Terberg Tugs and up-to-date diagnostic tools.
  • Cultural awareness of manufacturers’ maintenance procedures and Terberg DTS safety protocols.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Qualification: Certified City & Guilds Level 3 – Vehicle Mechanical & Electronic Systems (Maintenance & Repair) or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience: Proven Auto Electrician fault diagnosis experience, including diagnostic equipment. Specialisation in heavy goods/specialist vehicle repair/logistics.
  • License: UK valid full driving licence.
