Field Servicing Technician (Distribution Tractors & Port/Aircraft Equipment)

Reports to: Field Operations Manager Direct Reports: None Location: Rugby, UK


About the Role

The Field Servicing Technician performs routine servicing, inspections, and repairs for Distribution Tractors, Ro-Ro Tractors, port equipment, and aircraft ground support equipment (GSE) on customer premises. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting visual and operational checks to identify worn, dirty, or misaligned parts.
  • Diagnosing defects using technical manuals and diagnostic equipment.
  • Repairing or replacing defective components per manufacturer’s guidelines and Safe System of Work policies.
  • Conducting thorough accident damage assessments and compiling accurate incident reports.
  • Working independently while adhering to Health & Safety regulations.

The role requires controlling maintenance workflows, ensuring compliance, and maintaining high service standards—often without direct supervision.


Responsibilities

  • Represent Terberg DTS Service Department professionally, maintaining high standards of appearance, attitude, and technical skill.
  • Execute oral or electronic work instructions efficiently, prioritising deadlines and safety protocols.
  • Determine repair methods, select tools/equipment, and implement safety measures (PPE, signage, etc.).
  • Obtain customer sign-off for completed work, recording PO numbers and administrative details accurately.
  • Manage inventory of spare parts, ensuring stock records reflect usage and restocking needs.
  • Comply with manufacturer recommendations and company safety policies for maintenance procedures.
  • Uphold Health & Safety Policy, ensuring personal and workplace compliance.
  • Attend mandatory training/seminars, including new equipment workshops.
  • Maintain company vehicles and tools in a clean, secure, and operational state.
  • Adhere to legislation on mobile phone use, restricting unauthorized calls.
  • Collaborate across internal departments, particularly on projects and improvements.
  • Be available for additional hours/out-of-hours emergency callouts.
  • Travel to customer sites (with or without workshops) during unsociable hours as required.
  • Perform all duties reasonably needed to support operational goals.

Formal Requirements:

  • City & Guilds Level 3 in Vehicle Mechanical and Electronic Systems (or equivalent qualification) for maintenance and repair.
  • Substantial experience in auto electrical fault diagnosis, including heavy goods/specialist vehicles.
  • Valid UK driving licence for professional use.

Experience Levels:

  • Experience collaborating with airports/seaport operators is highly desirable.
  • Track record in independent troubleshooting, corrective repairs, and record-keeping.
