Field Service Technician Location: Sheffield, UK Reports to: Field Operations Manager Direct reports: None


About the Role

Performs a variety of routine servicing, inspections, and subsequent repairs to one or more types of:

  • Distribution Tractors

  • Ro-Ro Tractors

  • Other seaport equipment

  • Aircraft Equipment (GSE Only)

  • Manufacturer’s products on customers’ premises when requested

  • Performs visual or operational checks to locate worn, dirty, or maladjusted parts

  • Carries out technical inspections or uses manuals and diagnostic techniques to identify defective parts or components

  • Uses a small range of test equipment to conduct repairs

  • Produces accurate reports for accident-damaged machines

  • Works independently under minimal supervision while adhering to company and site Health & Safety requirements


Responsibilities

  • Represents Terberg DTS Service Department with the highest standards in:
    • Appearance
    • Professional conduct
    • Technical ability
  • Operates effectively within the Service Department to complete assigned tasks issued via:
    • Verbal instructions
    • Electronic work orders
  • Determines repair techniques, equipment selection, appropriate materials, and ensures proper safety measures (e.g., eye protection, suitable clothing)
  • Confirms customer satisfaction with completed work before obtaining signature approval (with purchase order number where necessary)
  • Ensures all administrative tasks meet expected standards
  • Maintains accurate inventory records of vehicle parts while performing workload
  • Completes maintenance and repairs strictly in line with manufacturer’s instructions and Terberg’s Safe System of Work
  • Complies with Company Health & Safety Policy and collaborates to meet statutory obligations
  • Attends all obligatory training courses or seminars
  • Keeps company equipment (vehicles, tools) clean, safe, and presentable at all times
  • Ensures secure storage of company vehicles/tools
  • Uses mobile phones responsibly, adhering to current legislation
  • Engages with multiple company departments, particularly projects in development or implementation
  • Available for additional shifts (including out-of-hours callouts)
  • Travels nationally to repair vehicles on- or off-site, possibly during unsociable hours
  • Undertakes additional duties as required to fulfil job purpose or business needs

  • Familiarity with preventative maintenance and repair procedures aligned with OEM manuals/safe system protocols
  • Expertise in:
    • Terberg Tugs
    • Advanced diagnostic techniques/systems
  • Full understanding and adherence to customer confidentiality protocols

Qualifications & Experience

  • A City & Guilds Level 3 Qualification in Vehicle Mechanical and Electronic Systems (repair/maintenance) or equivalent
  • Substantial experience in auto-electric fault diagnosis and subsequent repairs using:
    • Diagnostics equipment
    • Heavy goods vehicles or specialist equipment
  • Must hold a valid UK driving licence
