Field Service Technician – Distribution Tractors, Ro-Ro Tractors & GSE
Reports to: Field Operations Manager Direct reports: None Location: Stoke, UK
About the Role
Represents Terberg DTS Service Department in the field, performing a range of repairs, inspections, and maintenance tasks across specialist equipment including:
- Distribution Tractors
- Ro-Ro Tractors
- Seaport equipment
- Aircraft Ground Support Equipment (GSE only)
- Other manufacturer-specific systems
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting visual and operational checks to identify worn, dirty, or malfunctioning parts.
- Performing diagnostic inspections and repairs using technical manuals and test equipment.
- Assessing accident-damaged machinery and generating detailed repair reports.
- Working independently for extended periods while adhering to health & safety protocols.
- Traveling to customer sites (including workshops or mobile assignments) to maintain and repair equipment.
Responsibilities
- Represent Terberg DTS by maintaining a professional appearance, manner, and technical proficiency.
- Work effectively as part of the Service Department team, following verbal/instruction or written electronic work directives.
- Determine and apply the correct repair techniques, safety measures, and materials (e.g., PPE, appropriate attire).
- Obtain customer signatures and purchase order confirmation for completed work.
- Manage administrative and inventory procedures, ensuring accurate record-keeping of vehicle parts stock.
- Maintain equipment and compliance with manufacturer guidelines and Terberg’s Safe System of Work procedures.
- Attend mandatory training courses and participate in company developments.
- Secure and maintain company-supplied tools and vehicles while ensuring mandated mobile phone policy adherence.
- Collaborate with other departments, especially on new projects or initiatives.
- Be available for additional hours or out-of-hours callouts as required, with the possibility of work travel outside company premises.
- Perform additional tasks to support business needs appropriately.

Key Skills and Knowledge Required

Key Knowledge:
- Knowledge of UK Road Traffic Laws (e.g., speed limits, driver’s hours, HGV regulations).
- Operates and maintains Terberg Tugs and similar transport equipment.
- Proficiency in diagnostic systems, including electronic fault-finding tools.
- Adheres to manufacturer recommendations and Terberg’s preventative maintenance systems.
- Must understand the company’s Health & Safety Policy, ensuring safe working protocols and compliance.
Qualifications and Experience
- City & Guilds Level 3 in Vehicle Mechanical & Electronic Systems – Maintenance and Repair, or equivalent recognised qualification.
- Substantial work experience as an Auto Electrician, with expertise in fault diagnosis and repairs using diagnostic tools.
- Hands-on experience in servicing heavy goods and specialist vehicles.
- A UK-licensed professional driving license.
