About This Role

Are you a Mobile Engineer, HGV Technician, Plant Engineer or Forklift Engineer looking for a field based role where you can put your mechanical skills to good use? As a Mobile Engineer with Dawsongroup EMC, you will maintain and repair our specialist assets in the field, responding to breakdowns and servicing requirements while helping keep our customers operational.

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults across our specialist EMC assets and equipment.
  • Carry out servicing, PMI inspections, minor repairs and major repair work as required.
  • Use diagnostic equipment to identify faults across hydraulic, pneumatic, diesel and electrical systems.
  • Manage your own workload and vehicle stock, completing electronic job records accurately and on time.
  • Work closely with colleagues, supervisors and our service desk while maintaining a safety first approach.

About You

Your background could be in HGVs, plant, forklifts or a similar mechanical environment, what matters is that you can bring practical experience of hydraulics, pneumatics and gearboxes to the role. You will be comfortable working independently in a field environment, prioritising your workload and taking pride in getting repairs right first time.

  • Previous hands on experience working with hydraulic, pneumatic and gearbox systems on HGV, plant or forklift equipment.
  • A recognised Plant or HGV Technician qualification, with NVQ Level 3 identified within the job specification.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, alongside electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Confidence using plant or fleet diagnostic equipment and electronic systems to record completed work.
  • A Class 2 HGV licence is desirable, rather than essential.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
