The Role

Are you passionate about solving complex engineering challenges through data-driven insight and innovation? At James Fisher, you'll have the opportunity to apply state-of-the-art modelling and simulation tools to projects spanning defence, energy, and maritime transport. Working across a diverse portfolio of industries, you'll help optimise designs, predict performance, reduce risk, and support informed decision-making that delivers real-world impact.

What you'll be doing

  • Develop and apply mechanical engineering models and simulations across structural, fluid, thermal, and acoustic systems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to translate project requirements into accurate and effective simulation solutions.
  • Validate simulation models using real-world data.
  • Analyse results and provide clear, actionable insights to support decision-making.
  • Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders through written reports and presentations.
  • Continuously discover and adopt innovative tools, technologies, and best practices.

What we're looking for

  • Master's degree in mechanical, aero-mechanical, electrical-mechanical, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience applying FEA and CFD tools to solve engineering challenges; knowledge of Ansys Mechanical, Ansys Fluent, and open-source software is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in developing engineering models and simulations using MATLAB, Simulink, Python, or similar tools.
  • Experience validating simulation outputs against real-world data and test results.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information clearly.
  • A proactive approach to learning new skills, technologies, and methodologies.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work to agreed deadlines.
  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated, with a strong sense of ownership and a passion for solving complex engineering challenges.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
