Modelling Manager – Wholesale Banking

Location: London

Working pattern: Hybrid – 3 days per week in the office

Our client, a fast-growing UK challenger bank, is seeking a Financial Modelling Manager to support the continued development of its wholesale banking business.

This is a newly created and highly visible role focused primarily on structured lending, commercial real estate and warehouse finance transactions. Working closely with senior Wholesale Banking and Finance stakeholders, you will help assess new opportunities, build transaction models and develop the modelling infrastructure required to support a rapidly expanding business.

The successful candidate will join at an early stage in the development of the wholesale platform and will have the opportunity to influence how transactions are evaluated, structured and monitored.

The Role

The primary focus of the position will be supporting the bank’s wholesale lending and investment activity. You will work closely with the Chief Investment Officer and senior members of the Wholesale team to analyse new transactions, model underlying asset cash flows and assess whether proposed deals meet the bank’s required return and risk parameters.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Building cash-flow models for commercial real estate, warehouse finance and other structured lending transactions.
  • Analysing underlying loan and asset-level data.
  • Reviewing and cleansing data tapes received in connection with prospective transactions.
  • Performing DCF, NPV, IRR, return-on-equity and hurdle-rate analysis.
  • Running sensitivity, stress and scenario analysis across different transaction assumptions.
  • Assessing leverage, repayment profiles, asset performance and transaction economics.
  • Developing new modelling tools and frameworks to support the growth of the wholesale business.
  • Improving the scalability and automation of models as transaction volumes and data requirements increase.
  • Presenting modelling outputs and commercial insights to senior Finance, Treasury and Wholesale stakeholders.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Alongside the wholesale responsibilities, you will also take ownership of several established finance models supporting effective interest rate, hedge effectiveness and fair-value calculations. These models feed into the bank’s financial reporting and will provide a broader understanding of the organisation’s retail and balance-sheet activities.

About You

The bank is looking for someone with strong, hands-on cash-flow modelling experience gained within a capital markets, structured finance or lending environment.

Relevant backgrounds may include:

  • Ratings agencies
  • Structured finance or securitisation
  • Commercial real estate finance
  • Warehouse finance
  • Structured credit
  • Capital markets
  • Investment banking
  • Specialist lenders or challenger banks
  • Transaction modelling or financial advisory teams

You should be able to demonstrate that you have personally built and manipulated financial models, rather than solely reviewed, audited or validated models developed by others.

You are likely to have experience of:

  • Discounted cash-flow modelling
  • NPV and IRR calculations
  • Sensitivity and scenario analysis
  • Loan-level or asset-level data
  • Portfolio analysis
  • Complex Excel modelling

Experience of Python, SQL or VBA would be advantageous, particularly as the bank continues to move larger and more complex models away from Excel.

Previous exposure to EIR, hedge effectiveness or fair-value modelling would be beneficial but is not required. A qualified accounting background is also not essential where the candidate has strong quantitative and transaction-modelling capability.

Why Apply?

This is an opportunity to help build a wholesale banking platform from an early stage within an ambitious and well-capitalised challenger bank.

The role offers:

  • Direct exposure to live wholesale transactions.
  • Close interaction with senior decision-makers.
  • The opportunity to build models and processes from the ground up.
  • Broad exposure across structured finance, commercial real estate and warehouse lending.
  • Greater ownership and variety than is typically available within larger, more siloed institutions.
  • A genuine route from a ratings agency, advisory firm or transaction-modelling role into a commercially focused banking position.

The environment is fast-moving and entrepreneurial. There will be periods of model development and business-as-usual ownership, alongside more intensive deal activity when transactions are moving towards approval.

For someone who enjoys building models, interrogating complex data and influencing investment decisions, this is a compelling opportunity to join a growing wholesale banking business at a formative stage.
