Flexible Worker Contract

About the role
We're looking for Moderators to join our External Quality Assurance team on a flexible worker contract for the following qualification: Level 1/2 Technical Award in Food and Cookery
As a Moderator, you'll play a key role in ensuring that centres assess learners fairly, accurately and consistently. You'll review centre-marked work, apply quality assurance principles, and provide clear, constructive feedback to ensure national standards are maintained.
We’re keen to hear from individuals with a strong background in food and cookery, with experience of teaching and/or assessing learners in this subject area. You may currently work, or have previously worked, as a Food Technology Teacher, Catering Lecturer, Hospitality Lecturer or Culinary Trainer.
Whilst this is a flexible worker role, we require a reasonable level of commitment throughout the moderation window. Moderation activities begin in March 2027 where you will be expected to attend one of our Annual Training sessions. The primary moderation period will be between April and August 2027, during which your engagement will be most critical.
How you’ll make an impact:
- Conducting moderation activities in line with awarding organisation and regulatory requirements
- Attending standardisation and team meetings as required
- Reviewing centre marking to ensure assessment decisions are accurate, consistent and meet required standards
- Producing clear, accurate and timely moderation reports within agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
- Planning and managing moderation activity for allocated centres in line with sampling strategies and quality assurance requirements
- Supporting continuous improvement by identifying areas for development and sharing best practice
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the qualification, assessment requirements and your subject-specialist area

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
