The UK’s small and advanced modular reactor sector is entering a pivotal phase, with major programmes progressing and strong government backing.

The role

We’re seeking a Modular Reactor Safety Lead to join our Advanced Nuclear Technologies team, working in a fast-moving, innovation-led environment with real national impact. You’ll help shape the next generation of nuclear power through cutting-edge design, accelerated deployment and projects that strengthen the UK’s long-term energy resilience. The role is full time, working 37 hours per week, and can be undertaken remotely with occasional travel to Cavendish Nuclear and customer sites in the north-west of England.

Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:

  • Leading safety engineering assurance activities, ensuring technical rigour, compliance, and alignment with organisational and regulatory standards
  • Reviewing and approving safety engineering deliverables, ensuring appropriate verification, validation, and governance controls are applied
  • Managing technical safety inputs to ensure engineering solutions meet agreed scope, quality, and programme requirements
  • Producing and assuring calculations, analyses, technical reports, specifications, and method statements
  • Building and maintaining effective customer relationships, supporting issue resolution, progress reporting, and future business development

Essential experience of the Modular Reactor Safety Lead:

  • Chartered Engineer status with significant experience in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Proven experience leading safety engineering activities within a highly regulated industry
  • Strong background in safety assurance, technical governance, and regulatory compliance
  • Demonstrable experience operating in client-facing roles with complex stakeholder interfaces
  • Ability to provide authoritative technical leadership across multidisciplinary engineering teams

Qualifications for the Modular Reactor Safety Lead:

  • Degree, or equivalent qualification, in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Chartered Engineer status (essential)
