Company Description
Proper Advice is a whole-of-market mortgage and protection brokerage based in Chester. We help first-time buyers, home movers, remortgage clients, and landlords find the right mortgage, and make sure they're properly protected once they have it. We're a growing team that cares about getting things right for clients, and we look after every case closely from the first enquiry to completion. We also offer a 4-day working week.
Role Description
This is a full-time, office-based role in Chester. The work is roughly half case processing and half file quality. You'll support our advisers on the admin and compliance side of every case, getting applications onto lender systems accurately and quickly and making sure each file holds up from a compliance point of view.
Day to Day
- Key mortgage applications onto lender portals and packaging systems, checking the data against the fact find and supporting documents
- Run Decisions in Principle (DIPs)
- Prepare complete mortgage and protection files: ID and AML checks, income and expenditure evidence, suitability documentation, and disclosure paperwork
- Carry out pre-submission file checks so cases go to the network right first time
- Take the lead on compliance queries from our network, getting what's needed from advisers and clients and closing points off within deadline
- Keep case records up to date so anyone picking up a file can see exactly where it stands
- Spot recurring issues in file reviews and feed them back so the same points don't come up twice

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
