The role in one sentence: Take ownership of the technical, analytical and application work behind LionHart's mortgage advice - giving advisers the information they need to make great recommendations, then turning those recommendations into accurate, compliant and well-packaged mortgage applications.

What makes this role different:

  • It is a genuine technical mortgage role, not a renamed administration position.
  • The paraplanner owns document interrogation, fact-find completion, criteria research, compliance preparation, application packaging and progression through to offer.
  • The adviser retains the recommendation, regulated advice, strategic decisions and difficult client conversations.
  • There is no protection advice or protection administration: LionHart's dedicated in-house Protection Specialists own that work.
  • Post-offer progression is light-touch and mortgage-focused; the role is not a substitute for an estate agent's sales progressor.

Mortgage Paraplanner, The technical engine behind great mortgage advice.

Location
Milton Keynes / hybrid

Salary
£27,500 to £30,000, depending on experience

Hours
9-5pm Monday to Friday

Reports to
Business Principal

When you read an unclear lender criterion, is your instinct to dig until you have a reliable answer? Do you naturally notice when a salary does not match a fact find, a bank statement changes the affordability picture, or a property detail could derail an otherwise straightforward case? If so, you may be exactly the person we are looking for because this is not a renamed mortgage administrator role.

At LionHart, our advisers own the client strategy, recommendation and advice. Our Mortgage Paraplanner owns the detailed technical and operational work that makes excellent advice possible.

Once an adviser has established the client's circumstances and set the parameters for investigation, you will take ownership of progressing the case. You will review the documents, complete the financial picture, investigate the selected lenders, test affordability and criteria, and give the adviser clear, evidenced findings.

Once the adviser has made their recommendation, you will turn it into an accurate, compliant and well-packaged application, managing it through underwriting and offer, then retaining light-touch oversight through to completion.

In simple terms: the adviser decides what needs investigating and what should be recommended. You do the technical work required to get them there - then own the execution.

What you will actually do

  • Take ownership of all mortgage document processing, review and filing, including payslips, bank statements, accounts, tax returns, credit reports, identification, deposit evidence and existing mortgage information.
  • Complete budget planning from bank statements and update the fact find as new information becomes available.
  • Cross-check documents against the fact find, spotting gaps, contradictions, undisclosed commitments and anything that could affect affordability, criteria or suitability.
  • Contact clients directly for factual clarification, missing documents and application updates, while keeping advice and strategic decisions with the adviser.
  • Research the lenders, borrowing budgets and specific criteria questions set by the adviser, including affordability, income, credit, property, tenure, deposit, LTV, age, term, residency and specialist-scheme requirements.
  • Speak with lender helpdesks, BDMs and underwriters when published criteria are unclear, and record reliable supporting evidence on the file.
  • Return clear lender outcomes to the adviser - what works, what does not, what is uncertain and why - without overstepping into the formal recommendation.
  • Prepare sourcing evidence, suitability documentation and the compliance record in line with the adviser's rationale.
  • Prepare, check, submit and package DIPs and full mortgage applications once instructed.
  • Own lender requirements, document uploads, underwriting queries, valuation issues and offer conditions, challenging incorrect or unreasonable requirements where appropriate.
  • Check the mechanics of the mortgage offer against the application and recommendation, resolve discrepancies, and escalate advice-related matters to the adviser.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records and light-touch client contact through to completion, monitoring mortgage-specific deadlines such as offer expiry and rate reviews prior to completion.
  • Share and learn from useful lender and process learning with the team to enable the wider team to improve how mortgage cases move through the business.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you will not be expected to do

  • Generate leads, sell appointments or carry a mortgage sales target.
  • Make the formal lender or product recommendation to the client.
  • Take ownership of regulated advice, complaints or the most difficult client conversations.
  • Advise on or administer protection business. Every mortgage client is referred to our dedicated in-house Protection Specialists - that is the LionHart way.
  • Spend your week acting as a full sales progressor for estate agents and conveyancers. Post-offer progression is deliberately light-touch and mortgage-focused.

The person we are actually looking for

You may currently be a Mortgage Paraplanner, an experienced Mortgage Administrator or Case Manager who has outgrown a purely processing role, or even a Mortgage Adviser who loves the technical work but not the sales pressure.

You have a passion for the industry and take pride in your work.

When you see a £42,000 salary, £11,000 commission, £8,000 car allowance, a 15% deposit, a four-storey ex-local-authority flat and £310,000 required, your mind starts asking:

  • Which lenders take which elements of income?
  • What does the affordability actually look like?
  • Who will accept the property?
  • What evidence do we need before anyone relies on the answer?

You are technically curious, slightly obsessive about unanswered questions and disciplined enough to keep an immaculate file. You are comfortable speaking to clients and lenders, but you understand the boundary between providing information and giving advice.

You will probably have:

  • Strong working knowledge of the UK mortgage market, lender criteria and the application journey.
  • Previous experience in mortgage paraplanning, administration, case management or advice.
  • The ability to interpret income and financial documents, not merely collect them.
  • Confidence using lender affordability calculators, sourcing systems, lender portals and CRM software.
  • The judgement to distinguish a likely fit from a fully evidenced, genuinely viable application.
  • Excellent written accuracy, record keeping and attention to detail.
  • A calm, clear and friendly manner with clients, BDMs and underwriters.
  • The confidence to ask questions, challenge assumptions and escalate when something does not add up.
  • The organisation to manage competing cases without allowing urgent or important details to disappear.

Helpful, but not essential

  • Experience of complex income, self-employed cases, adverse credit, buy-to-let, shared ownership, new-build or unusual property types.
  • Experience preparing mortgage suitability or recommendation documentation.
  • Experience working within a mortgage network or compliance-led brokerage.

Why LionHart

We believe great mortgage advice is built on clear ownership, proper specialism and people doing the work they are genuinely best at. Our advisers advise. Our in-house Protection Specialists protect. This is an opportunity to help shape the role rather than inherit a tired job description. We want somebody who will improve how we investigate, package and manage mortgage cases - and whose work will materially increase adviser capacity without compromising standards.
