About the Role

Due to an internal promotion, we have a fantastic opportunity for someone new to step into an Underwriter role within our award-winning Underwriting Team. This is an exciting chance to grow within the Society, benefiting from clear progression routes while making a real impact by helping our members achieve homeownership.

Do you have experience as an Underwriter? Would you like to be involved in the underwriting process, using your expertise rather than relying solely on an automated system? Are you excited by the challenge of problem-solving, analysing information, and thinking differently to find the right solutions for our members?

If so, keep reading!

At Darlington Building Society, we pride ourselves on doing everything we can to say yes to our members, ensuring they have the opportunity to own their own home. This sometimes means going beyond the standard process, applying analytical thinking, and using creative problem-solving skills to assess mortgage applications thoroughly. Consulting our lending policy while working with the broker to ensure we have considered every option before making a decision as part of our manual underwriting process, allows us to be a specialist lender. In this role you will play an important part in that process

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
