Support our award-winning editorial video department
Job Title: Junior Motion-Graphics Designer
Location: London
We are looking for illustration and graphic-design graduates with an interest in motion design, video, social media, global affairs, data, maps and visual communication.
This job is based in London, with a minimum of three days per week in our offices and two days working from home. All applicants must hold the legal right to work in the United Kingdom without the need for any further visa-application or immigration process.

The Economist’s award-winning Video department produces factual content that reflects the newspaper’s global outlook. Our short, focused videos deliver clear, incisive analysis in a compelling, accessible format. They attract millions of views each month and are published on our website and app, and across social platforms including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Linkedin, X and Facebook. This department also produces our premium video product The Economist Insider, which showcases the expertise of our journalists—and includes maps, charts and stunning motion graphics.

We are seeking a motivated and dynamic illustration and/or graphic-design graduate to become a Junior Motion-Graphics Designer. In this role we will train you in motion design, data and maps so you can contribute to the production of editorial and data-driven videos and visual assets for use across our digital platforms.
You should have a strong willingness to learn, effective communication and solid graphic-design and/or illustration skills, along with a keen interest in video, global politics, current affairs and factual storytelling. An understanding of data visualisation and map creation would be a plus.
Key skills:
- Demonstrable proficiency in Illustrator and Photoshop
- Creative thinking in order to conceive, generate and implement ideas
- The ability to take an analytical approach to design, initiative and decision-making
- Planning and organising with meticulous attention to detail in design, planning and execution
- Proactivity and the ability to make quick, well-judged and informed decisions, as well as innovative ideas and techniques
- Works well under pressure, to tight deadlines and in a variety of situations, with different individuals or groups
- A basic understanding of After Effects, Premiere, 3D Pipeline and Cinema 4D would be a plus
- Some experience with Cavalry, Procreate and/or Touch Designer would be especially welcome

About the role:
As a Junior Motion-Graphics Designer your main responsibility will be to support the development and creation of motion graphics for our short-form vertical videos. You will gain hands-on experience across all stages of video production and the wider editorial process. From storyboarding to delivering final assets, you will develop skills in typography, data visualisation, map design and motion graphics for editorial storytelling.
