MeteorWrite is a specialist motor insurance broker working with UK insurance intermediaries. We are recruiting an experienced Motor Insurance Underwriter to assess, price and manage specialist motor risks across commercial and personal lines products. This is a broker-facing role for someone who combines sound technical judgement with a practical approach and wants to support profitable growth, strong portfolio performance and good customer outcomes within a small, collaborative team.
What you will do
- Underwrite new business, renewals and mid-term adjustments in line with delegated authority, insurer requirements, scheme appetite, underwriting guides and referral rules.
- Assess specialist motor risks across commercial and personal lines, quote and negotiate cover, terms, conditions and pricing, and record a clear rationale for material decisions.
- Identify risks outside authority or appetite and refer them promptly with a concise recommendation and supporting evidence.
- Build productive broker relationships, respond to enquiries and use commercial judgement to win and retain suitable business on appropriate terms.
- Maintain accurate and complete policy and referral records on our insurance platform and relevant insurer, enrichment and fraud prevention systems.
- Apply underwriting controls consistently, including claims, address, sanctions, fraud and other validation checks, escalating exceptions appropriately.
- Use individual and scheme performance information, emerging trends and recurring referral themes to support portfolio monitoring and improvement.
- Work with Trading, Pricing, Operations, Claims, Compliance, insurers and external partners to resolve issues and improve broker and customer outcomes.
- Support quality checking, peer review, coaching, knowledge sharing and practical process improvements as reasonably required.
- Operate within allocated underwriting and financial authority and comply with delegated authority, audit, data protection, information security, Consumer Duty, FCA Conduct Rules and mandatory training requirements.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
