Are you passionate about cars and curious about how they work? Are you ready to break into a new, exciting career? We are offering the opportunity to break into the automotive industry, gain experience and build a rewarding career through our Mechanics Apprenticeship Programme.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

You will be employed full-time in a garage and attend college one day each week on our Level 2 motor vehicle programme with progression to Level 3 on completion.

This course will provide:

  • Hands-on mechanical skills through practical training
  • A welcoming and supportive learning environment
  • Get one-on-one mentorship & guidance from experienced industry professionals

Whether you’re starting from scratch or looking to build on existing knowledge, this programme has been created to help you thrive.

Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.

Apprenticeships include regular training with a college or other training organisation

  • At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying

Level 2 Autocare Technician qualification:

  • Successful candidates will have full-time employment with training in a garage and day release at one of our training centres or other approved college to work towards achieving Level 2 qualification (over 18-months)
  • You will shadow qualified technicians at work so that you are able to learn first-hand how to service, maintain and repair vehicles
  • As you progress through the course and your confidence and experience grow, you will be able to start completing tasks on your own
  • One of our Training Officers will visit you in your workplace to mentor you and assess your competence regularly. This is part of our close support network NLG provides to ensure that apprentices are both enjoying and succeeding in their programme

North London Garages have rolling college programme which start approximately every 3-months. To apply, you must be able to travel to college once a week

On completion of this Autocare Technician Apprenticeship Standard, you will be eligible to apply for IMI membership as a Registered Professional or if they wish as an Associate Member

You will also gain entry onto the IMI Professional Register

Functional Skills in maths and English, if needed

Your earnings can increase over time with an apprenticeship. Find out about potential future pay (opens in new tab).

Following the completion of your Intermediate Apprenticeship (18-months), we recommend that you continue onto an advanced apprenticeship (12-months) to become a fully qualified Light Vehicle Technician

There are then a number of opportunities for progression within the Motor Industry, including (but not limited to): MOT Tester, Senior Technician or Workshop Manager
