Motor Underwriter - Mid Market

Location: Maidstone, 3 days per week

Salary: Circa £40,000 (Depending on experience)

IPS Group are working with a leading insurer within the UK commercial market, to appoint an experienced Motor Underwriter to join its well-established London-based trading team.

This is an exciting opportunity to work within a specialist commercial division focused on Mid-Market and Mid-Corporate business, managing and developing an existing portfolio of commercial fleet business, delivering profitable underwriting results while building strong broker relationships and driving portfolio performance.

  • Profitably underwrite and manage an existing commercial fleet portfolio within delegated authority levels.
  • Assess fleet risks, review policy coverage, and determine appropriate pricing and terms.
  • Utilise underwriting tools, appetite guides, and technical expertise to support sound decision-making.
  • Develop strong relationships with brokers through regular engagement and market presence.
  • Negotiate effectively to secure profitable outcomes while meeting customer needs.
  • Manage larger and more complex cases, providing technical underwriting solutions.
  • Monitor account performance, retention rates, and loss ratios.
  • Identify and address underperforming accounts through targeted action plans.
  • Collaborate with internal underwriting and technical teams to deliver best-in-class service.

About You

The ideal person for this opportunity will have experience underwriting commercial fleet business with strong technical knowledge across the Commercial Insurance market.

A few more ideals to have are:

  • Excellent trading and negotiation skills with a commercial mindset.
  • Experience developing and maintaining successful broker relationships.
  • Strong analytical and numerical capabilities with the ability to assess risk and portfolio performance.
  • Cert CII or Dip CII qualifications would be advantageous but not essential
