Salary: Scale 6 £33,603 - £37,020 per annum

Location: Peterlee Warehouse

Hours/Contract: Full-time, Mon-Fri 8.30am-4.30pm Permanent

Closing Date: 5pm, Tuesday 6th October 2026

The Role

To maintain and repair all vehicles assets owned and operated by Durham Constabulary ranging from cars high and low performance to LCV’s, minor and major repairs, servicing, MOT work along with some periodic conversion/vehicle alterations in line with blue light operational requirements.

What You’ll Do

  • Motorcycle repair experience is advantageous but not essential.
  • To diagnose faults, carry out repairs, servicing and pre M.O.T. inspections to cars, vans and L.G.V’s.
  • To carry out fault rectification testing following repair.
  • To carry out safety inspections and service routines to M.O.T. standards using manufacturers specifications alongside specific blue light requirements.
  • To carry out M.O.T. testing.
  • To commission and de-commission vehicles.
  • To ensure all equipment and building maintenance requirements are reported.
  • To assist other trades and apprentice training as required.
  • Road testing vehicles as required
  • To maintain personal knowledge (CPD) and understanding of vehicle technology and workshop equipment and be able to diagnose faults using appropriate diagnostic tools.
  • To work to health and safety practices and observe C.O.S.H.H. regulations.
  • To adhere to workshop administration requirements and ensure that relevant documentation is processed.
  • To undertake work related training as necessary.
  • Take part in ‘National Police Vehicle Technician Accreditation’ program as required
  • Take part in ‘Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA)’ program as required
  • Willing to partake in membership of an appropriate professional body such as the IMI as required

What You’ll Bring

  • City & Guilds level III/’A’ Levels/BTEC National in Motor Vehicle Technicians or equivalent (NVQ3)
  • At least 5 years technical experience is expected
  • At least 1 years Administration experience
  • Motorcycle repair experience is advantageous but not essential
