Description
Are you an experienced Motor Vehicle Technician looking to support the next generation of automotive professionals? Sandwell College is seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Motor Vehicle Technician to join our Automotive team on a permanent, full-time basis. Based at our Sandwell College campus, you'll play a vital role in maintaining our workshops, supporting practical teaching and ensuring equipment and vehicles are ready for learning. As the role includes moving and maintaining vehicles and supporting operational activities across the department, candidates must hold a valid UK driving licence.
Working alongside teaching staff and the Garage Manager, you'll help create a safe, professional and well-equipped learning environment where students can develop the practical skills needed for a successful career in the automotive industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain workshop equipment, tools, vehicles and learning resources to a high standard
- Support teaching staff by preparing materials, equipment and vehicles for practical sessions
- Carry out vehicle maintenance and repairs to an industry-standard level
- Ensure all workshop tools and equipment are safe, compliant and ready for use
- Maintain high standards of health and safety, including COSHH records and safe working practices
- Assist with stock control, ordering materials and receiving deliveries
- Support the smooth day-to-day operation of the Automotive workshop and learning environment
- Maintain a visible presence within the workshop, providing support to staff and students where required
- Respond to ad hoc requests across the College within agreed timescales
- Assist with enrolment activities, College events and departmental administration when required
- Promote excellent communication and customer service with staff, students and visitors

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent)
- A Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
- Experience repairing and maintaining motor vehicles within a workshop, fast-fit centre or vehicle repair environment
- A sound understanding of workshop health and safety requirements and safe working practices
- Experience maintaining workshop tools, equipment and resources
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with young people and colleagues
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to work calmly under pressure
- A proactive, flexible and positive approach with a strong team ethic
- A willingness to undertake relevant training and continuous professional development
- A full, valid UK driving licence (essential)
