I'm working with an established and growing property consultancy in London that is looking to appoint an MRICS Senior Building Surveyor to join its Building Surveying team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
The position offers a good balance between professional Building Surveying and project-led work, giving you the opportunity to maintain a broad skill set rather than becoming too specialised.
About You
To be considered, you should:
- Be MRICS qualified
- Have strong experience within Building Surveying
- Ideally come from a consultancy or property background
- Be comfortable managing projects and instructions independently
- Have strong technical and commercial knowledge
- Be confident working directly with clients
- Have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Be ambitious and keen to continue progressing professionally
The Opportunity
You'll be joining a business where experienced surveyors are trusted to manage their own work and develop strong client relationships, while still having the support of an established wider team.
There is genuine scope to progress beyond Senior Surveyor as the business continues to grow, making this a particularly good opportunity for someone looking for a long-term career move rather than simply their next role.
You'll also gain exposure to an interesting range of properties, clients and instructions, with the opportunity to broaden both your technical and commercial experience.
