Mug Logging Technician

Duration: 6 months
Location: Aberdeen, UK
Pay Rate: 300 GBP/Day (Inside IR35)

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Mud Logging Technician to support wellsite operations and provide real-time geological analysis during drilling activities. The role involves monitoring and interpreting geological and drilling data, preparing formation analysis logs, supporting sample handling, and maintaining Surface Logging Systems at the wellsite.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform real-time geological analysis of drilled cuttings and support formation evaluation activities.
  • Create and maintain formation analysis logs in collaboration with the Wellsite Geologist.
  • Collect, pack, label, and manifest geological samples for dispatch.
  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate gas detection and Surface Logging Systems.
  • Monitor and interpret wellsite data, providing timely information to drilling and geological teams.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while delivering day-to-day wellsite activities.
  • Provide technical advice and support to customers, wellsite personnel, and third-party teams.
  • Analyse wellsite data and resolve complex operational and logging-related issues.
  • Maintain accurate technical records, reports, and wellsite documentation.
  • Build effective working relationships with customers, Wellsite Geologists, drilling teams, and other wellsite personnel.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism in all customer and internal interactions.
  • Follow all HSE policies, legal requirements, and operational procedures.
  • Support additional wellsite and operational activities as required.
  • Work effectively in challenging drilling and logging environments, providing practical solutions to customer requirements.

Requirements

  • Technical Degree, preferably in Geosciences, Geology, Geophysics, or a related discipline.
  • Previous industry experience in Mud Logging or a similar wellsite logging position.
  • Good understanding of wellsite operations, geological data, and drilling activities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong customer-service awareness and ability to communicate with personnel at all levels.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary wellsite team.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability and ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Strong commitment to HSE and operational excellence.
