Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician
Location: County Durham, United Kingdom
Work Arrangement: On-site
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Schedule: Required to work a shift pattern of 6am to 2pm and 2pm to 10pm – with potential of a nightshift also being required
Salary: £45,000 plus based on proven skills and experience
About the Opportunity
A leading global manufacturer is seeking a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician to join its Maintenance team at a highly automated production facility in Darlington. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced maintenance professional with both mechanical and electrical expertise who enjoys troubleshooting complex equipment, improving system reliability, and supporting world-class manufacturing operations.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in maintaining production equipment, minimizing downtime, and driving continuous improvement initiatives in a fast-paced industrial environment.
What You'll Do
As a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician, you will:
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control systems.
- Identify equipment issues and implement effective solutions to improve reliability, uptime, and overall production efficiency.
- Carry out preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities across manufacturing equipment and facilities.
- Diagnose faults using electrical drawings, schematics, test equipment, and technical documentation.
- Support continuous improvement projects focused on safety, quality, productivity, and operational performance.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and enter breakdown data into the CMMS to support performance analysis and reliability improvements.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are completed in line with engineering standards, quality requirements, and safety procedures.
- Work safely with multiple energy sources, applying LOTO procedures and best practices at all times.
- Provide technical guidance and support to less experienced team members when required.
- Respond effectively to changing production priorities and operational needs.

What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Recognized apprenticeship in a relevant engineering discipline.
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronic, or related Engineering field.
- Significant hands-on maintenance experience within a manufacturing, industrial, or production environment.
- Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
- Experience working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Solid understanding of machine safety systems, LOTO procedures, and safe working practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- ONC, HNC, or equivalent technical qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronic Engineering.
- Experience troubleshooting Siemens PLC-controlled equipment.
- Familiarity with industrial automation and robotic systems.
- Knowledge of conveyor systems, automated material handling equipment, and automated guided or delivery vehicles.
- Experience using CMMS systems for maintenance planning and reporting.
