Umbrella - £31.98 per hour - Umbrella
Job Purpose
As a Multi-Skilled Building Services Engineer (Mechanical/Plumbing Bias), you will deliver planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive repairs, fault finding, and minor installation works across a portfolio of schools, children's centres, community buildings, and corporate properties. You will ensure building services remain safe, compliant, and operational while supporting the development of a plumbing apprentice.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on mechanical and plumbing systems.
- Diagnose and repair faults on commercial plumbing, heating, and mechanical equipment.
- Maintain pumps, pressurisation units, expansion vessels, calorifiers, booster sets, valves, and associated plant.
- Repair and maintain hot and cold-water systems.
- Service TMVs and support water hygiene and Legionella control activities.
- Complete minor installation and remedial mechanical works.
- Investigate root causes of faults and recommend long-term solutions.
- Update jobs, materials, findings, and completion details using the CAFM system and mobile technology.
- Maintain accurate records and job documentation.
- Carry out dynamic risk assessments and comply with permit-to-work procedures.
- Manage and prioritise reactive and planned workloads.
- Liaise professionally with building users, caretakers, contractors, and colleagues.
- Maintain work vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- Mentor and support a plumbing apprentice for approximately three days per week.
- Support wider M&E teams when required.

Essential Experience Required
- Significant experience in commercial plumbing and mechanical maintenance.
- Experience carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance.
- Experience maintaining heating systems, pumps, calorifiers, booster sets, expansion vessels, and associated plant.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Experience working independently in occupied buildings.
- Experience using CAFM systems or mobile maintenance technology.
- Ability to mentor, train, or support apprentices or junior engineers.
- Good understanding of health and safety and safe systems of work.

Essential Qualifications Required
- NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent recognised qualification in:
- Plumbing
- Mechanical Engineering
- Building Services Engineering
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Competent user of mobile technology and maintenance systems.
Desirable Qualifications / Experience
- Unvented Hot Water Certification.
- Water Hygiene / Legionella Awareness.
- Basic Electrical Fault Finding.
- BMS Awareness.
- HVAC and AHU Maintenance.
- Booster Pump Maintenance.
- Water Treatment.
- Asbestos Awareness.
- IPAF.
- PASMA.
- First Aid.
- Experience working within Local Authority, NHS, Education, or Public Sector estates.
Additional Information to Note
- Working hours: 36 hours per week.
- Location: 5 Pancras Square, Camden, N1C 4AG.
- Temporary to permanent opportunity.
- Full UK Driving Licence required.
- DVLA Check required.
- Interview Date: 23rd September 2026 (Online).
