Multi-Skilled Building Services Engineer (Mechanical/Plumbing Bias) – 3 Month Contract

Location: London Borough of Camden, 5 Pancras Square, London, N1C 4AG
Rate: £31.98 per hour (Umbrella)
Contract: 3 Month Contract (Temporary to Permanent Opportunity)
Hours: 36 Hours Per Week (excluding 1-hour unpaid lunch break)
Working Pattern: Van-Mobile Role
Pay: Bi-weekly

Summary

Camden Facilities Management is on the lookout for a seasoned Multi-Skilled Building Services Engineer with a focus on mechanical and commercial plumbing. This role involves maintaining a variety of facilities, including schools, children's centers, community buildings, and corporate properties throughout the borough. The engineer will be responsible for conducting planned preventative maintenance, addressing reactive repairs, diagnosing faults, and performing minor installations to ensure all building services systems are safe and efficient. Additionally, the role includes mentoring a Plumbing Apprentice for about three days a week, offering a rewarding opportunity for those passionate about guiding and nurturing talent.

Responsibilities

  • Execute planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and address reactive repairs on plumbing and mechanical systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues in commercial plumbing, heating, and mechanical plant systems.
  • Maintain and repair components such as:
    • Pumps
    • Pressurisation units
    • Expansion vessels
    • Calorifiers
    • Booster sets
    • Valves
    • Associated mechanical plant
  • Oversee domestic hot and cold water services.
  • Service TMVs and engage in water hygiene and Legionella control activities.
  • Conduct minor installation and remedial works.
  • Identify root causes of faults and propose long-term solutions.
  • Update job records, materials, findings, and completion details using CAFM systems and mobile devices.
  • Perform dynamic risk assessments and adhere to permit-to-work procedures.
  • Maintain the company vehicle, tools, and equipment.
  • Collaborate with M&E colleagues as needed.
  • Mentor and support a designated Plumbing Apprentice.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualifications:
    • NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualification in:
      • Plumbing
      • Mechanical Engineering
      • Building Services Engineering
  • Experience:
    • Extensive experience in commercial plumbing and mechanical maintenance.
    • Proficiency in maintaining:
      • Heating systems
      • Pumps
      • Pressurisation units
      • Expansion vessels
      • Calorifiers
      • Mechanical plant equipment
    • Experience in delivering both planned and reactive maintenance.
    • Strong skills in fault-finding and diagnostics.
    • Capability to work independently in occupied buildings.
    • Competence in using CAFM systems and mobile technology.
  • Other:
    • Valid Full UK Driving Licence.
    • Willingness and capability to mentor apprentices.

Desirable

  • Unvented Hot Water Qualification.
  • Training in Water Hygiene or Legionella Awareness.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical fault-finding.
  • Awareness of BMS.
  • Experience in HVAC and AHU maintenance.
  • Familiarity with booster pump maintenance.
  • Knowledge of water treatment.
  • Training in Asbestos Awareness.
  • IPAF or PASMA Certification.
  • First Aid Qualification.
  • Experience in:
    • Local Authority Estates

    • Public Sector Facilities Management
