Role Description
Please note: This is a permanent Night Shift roster - 4 on 4 off
Job Purpose
- Effective & efficient maintenance of the plant.
- Timely response to plant breakdowns, planned maintenance and calibrations, all owned until complete.
- All work formally recorded as such and or handed over as required.
Dimensions
- Ensure proactive response to maintenance and breakdowns on site ensuring continuity of production and services.
- To carry out maintenance activities, ensuring the manufacturing team achieve maximum compliance to the production plan, by minimising engineering downtime.
- Moving the engineering maintenance strategy from a breakdown/fire fighting mentality to a proactive approach.
- Identify the root cause, records actions taken to correct fault and up date Planned Maintenance system.
- To heavily support and coach the effective development of the Team (Engineering, Operators & Team Leaders).
- To share knowledge within team to increase the department flexibility.
- To step change the performance and efficiency of the existing plant through continuous improvement techniques.
- Be able to communicate effectively and confidently to all levels of colleagues within Princes and be capable of maintaining professional communication with clients, suppliers, contractors and customers outside the business.
- Ensuring both verbal and written shift handovers are carried out including the Maintenance Log being completed
Principal Responsibilities
Safety, Quality, Hygiene
- Ensure that when carrying out all duties that regard to own safety and that of others is always taken into account.
- Strict adherence to all H&S work policies e.g. Lock out and Tag (Isolation of all energy sources when undertaking any work) and Use of the “Permit to Work/Enter” system.
- Ensure purchased items conform to with legislative, moral and European directive requirements
- Personally demonstrate safe behaviour and take responsibility for the management of health & safety of engineering staff and contractors
- Carry out duties ensuring the site achieves and maintains required GMP standards
- Ensure all work conforms to statutory & safety requirements
- Ensure that risk assessments are completed and actioned.
- Support a culture that enhances behavioural awareness to reduce accidents and near misses
- Reduce customer complaints and wastage through effective maintenance and continuous improvement.

Operations Management
- With Team Leader establish clear objectives and priorities to enable manufacturing to meet operational targets.
- Carry out site maintenance activities and ensure GMP standards are reached.
- Responsible for recording work carried out with regards to breakdowns, repairs and modifications. Taking ownership for issues to ensure follow-up is carried out and the original issues are closed off.
- Responsible for monitoring, updating and improving the planned maintenance system and ensuring work planned and progressed.
- Updating of plant parameters/set points etc. as per site procedures.
- Ensure that plant and equipment perform to manufacture product efficiently to high quality standards.
- To liase, assist with training and support other departments in general running of the factory.
- Undertake The Training Of Others As Required
- Identify own training needs and with manager agree a time plan for achieving this. To include Multiskilling and continued Upskilling.
Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to and help implement continuous improvement, to enhance quality, safety, efficiency and waste reduction.
Communication
- Work closely with support functions (HR, Technical, Manufacturing, Logistics and Finance) to ensure resources required are identified and communicated with all outstanding issues resolved.
- Communicate as required with Planning, Manufacturing and all of site to ensure projects are implemented on time, in full, within budget.
- Communicate daily with manager to ensure planned maintenance, engineering and production priorities are considered.
- Communicate as required with Engineering Stores to ensure that spares are available for planned and breakdown maintenance.
- Ensuring that good quality (“End of Shift” & “Start of Shift”) briefings take place between shift engineers

Role Requirements
Essential knowledge, qualifications and experience
- Nationally recognized levels of competence in the maintenance of FMCG Machinery. Pneumatics, Hydraulics and electrical circuits, to suit the needs of our business.
- A general understanding of PLC control systems as used within Princes equipment.
- Electrical competence in the safe diagnosis and repair of faults within motors, control systems and lighting systems to a high level.
- Computer literate (SAP, Microsoft package).
- Work within a CI environment.
- 18th Edition IEE Regulation qualified.

- Knowledge of rotary and hydrostatic sterilising equipment
- Diagnostics of finished product damage
Skills
Mandatory
- 5+ years hands-on experience of rotary sterilising equipment, preferably FMC/JBT manufactured equipment inclusive of ancillary parts such as pumps and control valves.
- Basic PC skills.
Additional
- Experience of working on hydrostatic sterilisation equipment
- Food Safety Level 2.
- Health & Safety Level 3
- Confined space trained
