Salary: £44,000 – £50,000 per year
Job Type: Permanent, Full-time
Shift Pattern: 4 days on / 4 days off – 2 days / 2 nights, 12-hour shifts

As our business continues to grow, maintaining the reliability and efficiency of our production equipment has never been more important. That's where our Engineering team comes in.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Multi-Skilled Engineer to join our Engineering team at our Croespenmaen site. This is a hands-on role responsible for carrying out planned preventative maintenance, responding to equipment breakdowns, fault-finding across electrical and mechanical systems, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives throughout the site.
Working closely with Production, Hygiene, and Operational teams, you will play a key role in maximising equipment performance, improving reliability, and ensuring compliance with health & safety, food safety, and engineering standards.
You will be a proactive problem-solver, technically competent across both electrical and mechanical disciplines, and comfortable working within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance to maximise equipment availability and reliability.
- Respond effectively to equipment breakdowns and undertake electrical and mechanical fault-finding.
- Ensure all plant and equipment is operated and maintained safely and in accordance with Brace’s Bakery procedures.
- Work closely with Production, Hygiene, and Operations teams to prioritise engineering tasks, minimise downtime, and maximise machine availability.
- Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of all plant and equipment throughout the bakery.
- Use engineering documentation, equipment literature, and the Engineering Library to support effective diagnosis and maintenance.
- Participate in daily and weekly examinations, inspections, and maintenance routines.
- Support continuous improvement and the development of engineering best practice across the site.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, spares, inspections, and other required documentation.
- Ensure all engineering work meets required quality, hygiene, food safety, and health & safety standards.
- Ensure effective housekeeping and adopt a ‘clean as you go’ approach.
- Support the safe management of contractors and third-party engineers working on site.
- Participate in shift handovers and ensure effective communication between engineering teams.
- Attend SIC and operational meetings where required and respond to agreed actions.
- Liaise with Shift Managers, Technical Managers, Production, and other key members of the team regarding engineering, quality, and hygiene issues.
- Ensure the engineering toolbox trolley is maintained to the required standard, including cleanliness and organisation.
- Complete required boiler checks and documentation on each shift.

Engineering & Maintenance
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Carry out both planned and reactive maintenance.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical faults.
- Identify equipment that is not meeting required quality or hygiene standards and take appropriate action.
- Ensure equipment settings and maintenance activities comply with company procedures.
- Contribute to achieving maximum machine availability at the lowest practical cost.
- Maintain high engineering and maintenance standards across the bakery.
- Record and manage engineering spares correctly.
- Participate in the development of skills and engineering best practice.
Health, Safety, Quality & Food Safety
Health, safety, hygiene, and food safety are fundamental to everything we do.
You will be responsible for:
- Complying with all company health & safety procedures.
- Adhering to relevant statutory regulations and legislation affecting food production.
- Ensuring all engineering activities comply with Food Safety Procedures.
- Maintaining high standards of housekeeping.
- Following all hygiene policies and procedures.
- Completing all required quality, hygiene, and engineering documentation.
- Ensuring your working area is maintained in a clean and hygienic condition.
- Supporting effective safety and loss-control programmes within the Engineering department.

What We're Looking For
We are looking for an experienced engineer who combines strong technical ability with a practical, team-focused approach.
You should have:
- Proven experience in a Multi-Skilled Engineering role.
- Strong electrical and mechanical maintenance skills.
- Experience working within a manufacturing environment.
- Minimum 5 years' experience within the food industry.
- HNC in Mechatronics.
- Level 3 qualification in Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance.
- Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- A strong understanding of production and planning.
- Excellent communication and people skills.
- The ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to meet deadlines.
- An understanding of quality, hygiene, and food safety requirements.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A flexible approach and willingness to support new systems, processes, and ideas.
The Shift Pattern
4 days on / 4 days off
The shift pattern consists of:
- 2 days → 2 nights → 4 days off
- 12-hour shifts
The role requires flexibility and a commitment to effective shift handovers and teamwork to ensure continuity across the Engineering department.
