James Kemball part of the GB Global Group is seeking a reliable and proactive Multi-Skilled Operative to join our container depot operation in Felixstowe.
This is a hands-on role responsible for the safe and efficient movement, storage, handling, and preparation of equipment and materials throughout our operational yard. The successful candidate will be primarily involved in operating Counterbalance Forklift Trucks and undertaking a variety of yard-based activities to support operational requirements.
The role is largely based in an open-air operational environment and requires individuals who are comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, operational efficiency, and customer service whilst contributing positively to the wider team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate Counterbalance Forklift Trucks in accordance with company procedures and safety standards.
- Load, unload, move, and position materials, equipment, and cargo throughout the yard.
- Support vehicle loading and unloading activities.
- Assist with the receipt, storage, control, and dispatch of operational equipment and materials.
- Carry out routine daily forklift checks and report any defects or maintenance requirements.
- Ensure all movements and activities are accurately recorded within company systems and documentation.
- Maintain safe traffic routes and storage areas within the yard.
- Conduct visual inspections of equipment and materials, identifying any damage or concerns.
- Support housekeeping activities to maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
- Assist with stock checks, inventory movements, and location management.
- Work closely with supervisors and colleagues to achieve operational targets and customer requirements.
- Support general depot and yard duties as required.
- Build positive working relationships with customers, drivers, contractors, and colleagues.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and safety performance.

Skills & Experience:
Essential
- Valid Counterbalance Forklift Truck licence.
- Previous experience operating Counterbalance Forklift Trucks in a busy outdoor operational yard.
- Strong understanding of health and safety requirements within a logistics, transport, industrial, or operational environment.
- Experience loading and unloading vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Flexible approach to changing operational priorities.
- Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated.

Desirable
- Experience within a container depot, distribution yard, transport yard, or logistics operation.
- Previous experience handling oversized, unusual, or non-standard cargo.
- Basic IT skills and experience using operational systems.
- Banksman or vehicle marshalling experience.
- First Aid or Health & Safety qualifications.
