About Formula E
Formula E, the world's fastest-growing sport, is redefining motorsport with a bold focus on innovation and sustainability. Hosting over 150 races in iconic cities globally and backed by top manufacturers like Porsche, Nissan, and Jaguar, we feature elite drivers and cutting-edge EV technology.
As the world's first certified B Corp sport and the first sport certified to the British Standards Institution (BSI) Net Zero Pathway, Formula E combines thrilling entertainment with a mission to advance sustainable progress, inspiring a global fanbase with our high-performance brand new GEN4 car capable of hitting speeds of 335kph and reaching 200kph in just 4.4 seconds. Currently achieving 0-100 kmh in 1.8 seconds.
Using the spectacle of sport, we are sending a powerful and meaningful message to help alter perceptions and speed-up the switch to electric mobility.
The Role
As our Multiphysics Simulation Engineer, you will turn complex physical problems into clear, practical recommendations to support the development of next-generation all-electric race cars and trackside technical systems.
Using COMSOL Multiphysics® as your principal simulation platform, you will solve coupled electrical, electromagnetic, thermal, fluid, and structural challenges. Beyond component-level modelling, you will connect subsystem models into comprehensive virtual representations of the car, laying the groundwork for Formula E’s future digital-twin capabilities. You will collaborate closely with internal technical teams, the FIA, automotive manufacturers, technical partners, and test teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Multiphysics Modeling: Develop, run, and interpret 3D simulation models in COMSOL Multiphysics across electrical, electromagnetic, thermal, CFD, and structural domains.
- High-Voltage & Powertrain Analysis: Model and investigate electric machines, battery packs, power electronics, EV charging systems, high-voltage cabling, busbars, connectors, and sensors.
- Thermal & Fluid Dynamics: Perform thermal and CFD analyses of cooling systems, internal/external airflow, pressure losses, and conjugate heat transfer.
- Structural Mechanics: Conduct structural analyses covering stress, deformation, stiffness, vibration, fatigue, and thermal loading.
- Geometry & Meshing: Prepare and simplify CAD geometry and build computational meshes tailored for accurate numerical solving.
- Test Data Correlation & Optimisation: Correlate virtual models with lab, rig, supplier, and track-test data, running parametric and optimization studies to enhance performance, efficiency, safety, and reliability.
- System Integration & Digital Twins: Connect component models into larger virtual representations of the race car, helping establish validation and configuration practices for digital-twin development.
- Technical Communication: Clearly communicate simulation assumptions, solver settings, limitations, and actionable findings during technical reviews.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
What we're looking for in you
- Educational Background: An MEng or MSc in electrical, electronic, mechanical, automotive, aerospace, computational, or mechatronics engineering, applied physics, or a closely related discipline. (Electrical/electronic engineering combined with 3D CAE experience is highly preferred).
- Simulation Experience: At least 3 years of relevant physics-based simulation experience in industry, applied research, or advanced engineering development. (5+ years of experience is desirable).
- Technical Domain Expertise: Practical experience in 3D physics-based modeling across electrical/electromagnetics, thermal management, CFD, or structural mechanics. Experience with EV high-voltage systems or electric powertrains is a strong advantage.
- Tooling & Numerical Methods: Solid understanding of numerical methods, boundary conditions, mesh quality, and solver convergence. COMSOL Multiphysics experience is advantageous, though experience with other major professional CAE tools is welcome.
- CAD & Data Correlation: Experience preparing CAD geometry and correlating simulation models with physical test/telemetry data.
- Mindset & Approach: Strong engineering judgment with the ability to translate numerical outputs into concrete design recommendations. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to present methods and findings clearly to technical stakeholders.
