Equans Embedded Energy operates multiple customer sites with large-scale embedded energy capacity across the UK, providing specialist management of onsite generation for industrial processes and the ability to export to the Grid. We combine multiple technologies to meet our customers’ specific needs, and provide design, build, operate, and maintenance services. Our skills and expertise can help industrial businesses to achieve their carbon reduction goals.
We are experts in many technologies, including combined heat and power (CHP), biomass, and energy from waste. By locating generation on customers’ sites we provide our customers with industry-leading safety management, reduced energy costs and carbon footprint, and assured energy security for their operational needs.
General Overview
To undertake and coordinate the activities of the team and others in carrying out all PPM and reactive repairs as necessary.
Responsible for minor installations and maintenance of site electro-mechanical systems including Compressed Air, Steam, Pressure, Water, and Gas ensuring that all equipment within responsibility and control is correctly maintained and repaired, maximising plant operational efficiency and the safety of all other personnel at all times.
Reporting to the Regional Operations Manager, the Lead Technician will help manage the day-to-day Operations and Planned/Reactive maintenance activities, reporting directly to the regional operations manager. The role shall have responsibility for all routine PPM’s Reactive Faults and Statutory compliance maintenance, including keeping all site documentation with regards to compliance and PPM up to date.
Key Activities
- Direct point of contact with the customer
- Provide ad-hoc and emergency on-call rota cover
- Diagnose and repair faults on systems and plant including basic mechanical and electrical fault finding
- Supervise and deliver preventative, predictive, and emergency maintenance work in order to meet plant reliability and performance targets
- Supervise and support others in fault diagnosis and repairs as necessary always ensuring a high level of General Safety
- Create and maintain high-quality records and reports of maintenance activities to deliver useful plant history data which complies with all relevant statutory requirements
- Responsible for all record keeping, control of sub-contractors, and raising and issuing of safety documentation as required
- Ability to work in a customer-focused environment where quality and image are very important
- Ensure that any difficulties encountered on engineering activities are reported to the Regional Operations Manager
- Ensure all record-keeping functions are completed on a daily basis or as required
- Ensure all work is carried out to the highest standards of workmanship and safety
- Understanding of company procedures
- Good understanding and previous experience of the application of EQUANS Safe Systems of Work / Safety Rules for LV, Mechanical systems including Confined Spaces and Hot Work management including authorisations & Permit to Work
- To evaluate performance and ensure the proper servicing and maintenance of equipment under contract to the company is carried out
- Undertakes the role with minimum supervision, focusing on the needs of customers and effectively following quality processes and procedures
- Pro-active approach to SHEQ and identifying areas for improvement

Skills, Qualifications & Experience
- Knowledge and preferably proven experience and delivery of FM Services
- Knowledge of Environmental, Health, and Safety legislation and its impact on day-to-day operations
- An understanding of the processes and systems required to develop and maintain a high standard of work quality
- Minimum of BTEC National Certificate/City and Guilds Level 3 or equivalent but preferred Higher National Certificate in a Mechanical craft discipline
- NVQ Level 3 in a craft discipline or equivalent
- Completed recognised relevant apprenticeship
- Proven related experience in mechanical/electrical work
- A formal health and safety-related qualification e.g., IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent would be beneficial but not mandatory
