Accepting applicants for MUNICIPAL GARAGE SHOP ASSISTANT with the City of Lewiston. Applications are available from the Human Resources Department or online at www.lewistonmaine.gov.
GENERAL INFORMATION:
Department: Public Works
Barg. Unit: AFSCME-PW (Public Works)
Status: Full-Time, Hourly (40+ hours/week)
Grade: 4 ($24.58-27.71/hour, depending on experience)
Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00am – 3:00pm
Additional Hours May Be Required For Events Or Emergencies.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma, or equivalent and two (2) years experience working in a repair facility, garage, or automotive supply/parts store; or equivalent combination of experience and education. Must possess a valid driver’s license, in good standing, and have a Maine Class B CDL or be able to obtain within first six (6) months of employment.
WORK ACTIVITIES:
- Maintain tire inventory for entire fleet of vehicles and equipment as well as tire chains for all necessary equipment.
- Order, install and track usage of tires for all fleet equipment.
- Track and maintain stock of materials to cut up, assemble, fit and repair tire chains for equipment such as plow trucks, front-end loaders, graders and more.
- Shuttle vehicles and equipment to/from dealers when required for repairs.
- Travel to work sites to install tires, boost vehicles and fuel equipment.
- Pick up, return or deliver parts and components (such as engines, transmissions, plow equipment, etc.) to/from vendors.
- May perform common maintenance tasks such as changing wiper blades, light lens covers, light bulbs and grease fittings.
- Participate in departmental training as required.
- Keep accurate records of repair orders, fuel charges, and hour meter readings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
