£15.22 per hour | Museum Queue and Ticket Scanning Team – Outdoors | London
The Brief
The British Museum is looking for confident, proactive individuals to join its busy Queue and Ticketing Team until 31st January 2027. You need to be unfazed by the British winter as this job is entirely outdoors – though you will be charged with giving visitors a warm welcome. The role is ideal if you enjoy engaging with people and creating memorable experiences.
Your New Role
- Scan tickets and manage visitor flow at the Museum entrance
- Greet guests with warmth and professionalism, whatever the queue looks like that day
- Answer questions about exhibits, events and general visitor information
- Keep queues moving and manage crowds calmly during peak periods
- Follow safety procedures and know when to escalate an issue
- Support opening and closing routines alongside Security and Visitor Experience colleagues
- Resolve visitor concerns on the spot, with patience and good judgement

Your Talents
- You’ve worked in customer service before, and you know a queue moves faster when someone is looking after it, not just controlling it.
- You’ll stay composed even when it’s busy, cold, or both, and you communicate clearly under pressure.
- You’ll need a physical DBS certificate issued within the last five years, and the availability to attend an in-person assessment day on Thursday 1st October.
- A second language is an advantage, but not essential.
