The Role
Museum Technicians - Three fixed term contract roles available. 2 x six months and 1 x 18 months.

We are looking for three individuals to join our teams in the Technical Services department.
You will play a key role in the care, movement and display of the V&A's collections. Working across exhibitions, displays, stores, loans and collections care projects, you will help ensure objects are safely handled, packed, installed, transported and maintained to the highest professional standards. You will bring to the role previous experience in a museum, gallery or art handling environment or demonstrable transferable skills.
What will you be doing
- Apply a high standard of technical skills in the safe handling, packing, installation, movement and transportation of museum objects. Operate lifting and access equipment safely and apply specialist skills, such as mount making, framing or other technical disciplines where required.
- Work collaboratively within flexible, multidisciplinary teams to deliver exhibitions, displays, loans, collections care activities and other museum projects, supporting colleagues, contractors and external partners as required.
- Plan and deliver work safely by preparing risk assessments, method statements and other supporting documentation, maintaining accurate records and identifying opportunities to improve working practices.
- Maintain high workshop standards by safely using, maintaining and storing tools, machinery and equipment, applying museum-standard fabrication, mount making and workshop techniques.
- Take ownership of your professional development by contributing to departmental objectives, embracing new skills and supporting continuous improvement across Technical Services.
- Build effective working relationships with your team and colleagues across the museum, communicating clearly and professionally with technical, curatorial, conservation, collections management, Access and project teams to support successful project delivery.
- Promote a positive health and safety culture by following safe systems of work, maintaining compliance with COSHH, risk assessments and method statements, and ensuring health and safety is integral to all Technical Services activities.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to the role as required, recognising that responsibilities may evolve in line with departmental priorities and the needs of the museum.

Who are we looking for
Technical knowledge and experience
- Demonstrable technical skills in the safe handling, packing, installation and movement of museum or comparable collections.
- Experience using workshop machinery, hand tools, lifting equipment and access equipment safely and effectively.
- An understanding of museum object handling principles and the ability to select appropriate techniques for a wide range of objects and materials.
- Experience of fabrication, mount making, framing or other relevant workshop skills is desirable.

- Able to assess risks and make sound decisions using established procedures, professional judgement and best practice.
- Organised and able to prioritise work effectively while managing multiple tasks and changing priorities.
- A practical, proactive and solutions-focused approach to problem solving.
- Able to deliver high-quality work to agreed deadlines.
