Music Teacher – SEMH School

Location: Stockport, SK12
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Job Type: Full-time, Long-term
Start Date: ASAP

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and engaging Music Teacher to join a specialist SEMH school in Stockport, supporting children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs, including Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA).

This is an excellent opportunity for a creative and adaptable teacher who can use music to engage pupils, build confidence and develop positive relationships with young people who may have faced barriers to education.

You will deliver engaging, practical music lessons tailored to individual learning needs, creating a safe, supportive and inclusive environment where pupils can express themselves, develop new skills and enjoy learning.

  • Plan and deliver engaging, creative music lessons tailored to pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Use music to support emotional regulation, confidence, self-expression and social development.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils experiencing anxiety, emotional difficulties and EBSA.
  • Adapt teaching approaches to meet a range of abilities, interests and individual learning needs.
  • Create a positive and structured classroom environment that encourages participation and engagement.
  • Work collaboratively with support staff and the wider school team to promote pupil wellbeing and progress.
  • Encourage pupils to explore different musical instruments, genres and creative activities.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant music teaching experience.
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or behavioural needs.
  • A genuine passion for using music to engage and inspire young people.
  • An understanding of emotional-based school avoidance, anxiety and barriers to learning.
  • Strong behaviour management, communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A patient, resilient and adaptable approach, with the ability to motivate pupils who may be reluctant to engage in education.
