National Account Manager – Drinks

Location: Remote – UK
Sector: Drinks / FMCG
Function: Sales / National Accounts

The Opportunity

We are working with an ambitious drinks business looking to appoint a commercially driven National Account Manager to manage and grow relationships with major UK customers. Operating in a fast-moving and entrepreneurial environment, the successful candidate will take ownership of key national accounts while identifying new commercial opportunities across the grocery, convenience, wholesale and wider retail landscape. This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced FMCG account manager who enjoys combining strategic account development with hands-on commercial delivery. The position is predominantly remote, with regular customer meetings and travel across the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop a portfolio of major national accounts.
  • Build strong relationships with buyers, category teams and other key customer stakeholders.
  • Develop annual joint business plans aligned with company and customer objectives.
  • Deliver revenue, margin and distribution targets across assigned accounts.
  • Identify opportunities to grow listings, distribution and rate of sale.
  • Negotiate annual commercial agreements and trading terms.
  • Manage promotional plans, pricing discussions and customer investment.
  • Develop accurate sales forecasts by account and product.
  • Monitor account performance and identify corrective actions where required.
  • Work closely with Marketing and Brand teams to develop customer-specific activation plans.
  • Support new product launches and secure new listings.
  • Use category and consumer insights to strengthen commercial proposals.
  • Analyse sales, margin and promotional effectiveness.
  • Identify and develop new national account opportunities.
  • Attend customer meetings, trade events and industry exhibitions.
  • Maintain accurate pipeline and account information.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain and Operations to maintain excellent customer service.
  • Ensure promotional and commercial activity delivers an appropriate return on investment.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Experience within FMCG, drinks, food or consumer goods.
  • Previous experience managing national or major retail accounts.
  • Strong commercial negotiation capability.
  • Experience working with UK grocery, convenience, wholesale or retail customers.
  • A strong understanding of pricing, promotions, margin and customer investment.
  • Experience creating and delivering joint business plans.
  • Strong analytical and forecasting capability.
  • Excellent presentation and stakeholder-management skills.
  • A proactive, entrepreneurial and commercially focused approach.
  • The ability to work independently within a remote environment.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with customers and internal stakeholders.

Experience working with major customers such as Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Morrisons, Waitrose, Co-op, Ocado, Booker, Costco or national wholesalers would be advantageous, although the exact customer portfolio will depend on previous experience.
