NATIONAL ACCOUNT MANAGER

FMCG | Retail, Wholesale & New Business
A varied, high-visibility commercial role for someone who enjoys pace, autonomy and managing a broad mix of customers.
The opportunity
A leading international manufacturer within the personal care and household sector is looking for a commercially driven National Account Manager to support the continued growth of its UK business.
This is not a traditional, single-customer NAM role. You will manage a varied portfolio spanning grocery retailers, independent customers and wholesalers, while also identifying and converting new business opportunities across both branded and private-label products.
The breadth of the customer base means priorities can change quickly. One day you may be preparing for a major retailer negotiation; the next, progressing a new-product launch, reviewing forecasts, responding to an inbound opportunity or working with operations to resolve a customer issue. The right person will enjoy that variety, keep control of multiple priorities and remain positive and solutions-focused in a fast-moving manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage and grow a diverse portfolio of retail, wholesale and independent customers across the personal care and household sector.
- Identify, target and win new business, managing opportunities from initial contact and commercial proposal through to launch and long-term account development.
- Deliver agreed sales, volume and profit targets, with clear ownership of account performance and forecast accuracy.
- Develop practical account plans that identify opportunities for new listings, range growth, margin improvement and stronger customer partnerships.
- Lead negotiations covering pricing, promotions, contracts and commercial terms, balancing customer needs with sustainable, profitable growth.
- Work across branded and private-label propositions, adapting your approach to different customers, channels and commercial models.
- Partner closely with Marketing, NPD, Supply Chain, Technical, Finance and Operations to take opportunities from concept through to successful delivery.
- Use customer, category and performance data to identify risks, opportunities and clear commercial actions.
- Support the Sales Director in shaping and executing the wider category growth strategy, including innovation and sustainability initiatives.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Candidate attributes
- You will be commercially sharp, energetic and comfortable taking ownership.
- You will enjoy a role with genuine breadth: switching between strategic account development, day-to-day customer needs, new-business conversations and internal delivery.
- Rather than needing a predictable remit or a single account to focus on, you will be motivated by variety, visibility and the opportunity to make a tangible difference.
- You will also be pragmatic and resilient. This is a growing operation where priorities move, challenges need resolving and strong internal collaboration matters.
- You will bring structure to a busy workload, communicate clearly and stay focused on solutions.
Why now?
- A commercially important role with autonomy, visibility and direct influence on growth.
- Exposure to a wide mix of customers, channels and propositions rather than a narrow account remit.
- The opportunity to combine account growth, new-business development, innovation and strategic planning.
- A well-invested market leader and international manufacturer with significant UK capability and long-term ambition.
If you are looking for a broad, hands-on National Account Manager role where your commercial judgement, adaptability and energy will be genuinely valued, we would be pleased to hear from you.
