ABOUT THE ROLE

The National Account and Specification Manager is responsible for managing and growing BESA's highest-value contractor members (Band 6 and 7), driving new membership growth, supporting Member Pledge supply chain opportunities, and increasing recognition of BESA membership and the Competence Assessment Standard (CAS) within procurement and specification processes. The role focuses on building strategic relationships, retaining key accounts and identifying opportunities that strengthen BESA's influence across the building engineering services sector.

Given the travel requirements associated with this position, a £6,000 per annum Car Allowance will be allocated.

KEY DUTIES

Strategic Account Management & Growth

  • Manage Band 6 and Band 7 contractor members as strategic accounts.
  • Build and maintain senior stakeholder relationships.
  • Develop account plans, identify retention risks and maximise membership value.
  • Generate and convert new Band 6 and Band 7 membership opportunities.
  • Maintain an accurate sales pipeline and CRM records.
  • Deliver agreed membership growth and retention targets.

Member Pledge & Supply Chain Development

  • Develop supply chain opportunities through major contractor relationships.
  • Identify and convert suitable non-member contractors.
  • Coordinate opportunities with regional teams where appropriate.
  • Track and report Member Pledge activity and outcomes.

Specification & Market Influence

  • Build relationships with organisations that specify, procure or oversee building engineering services.
  • Promote recognition of BESA membership and CAS within procurement, tendering and contractor assurance processes.
  • Support the development of specification-led membership opportunities, including pilot initiatives where required.

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Work closely with internal teams to deliver a consistent member experience.
  • Maintain accurate reporting on account activity, pipeline performance, membership growth and market engagement.

ABOUT YOU

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Strategic account management, national account management or business development experience.
  • Experience managing senior stakeholder relationships and delivering commercial growth.
  • Strong account planning, pipeline management and CRM skills.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and relationship-building skills.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the building engineering services sector.
  • Experience working with contractors, FM providers, procurement bodies or specification-led environments.
  • Understanding of competence, compliance, assurance or membership organisations.
