Edapt is the largest teaching union alternative in the UK.
We are independent and apolitical, and thousands of teachers, school leaders and support staff subscribe to us for employment support and legal protection. We are growing our casework team and appointing two National Casework Officers.
The role
You will be the person a teacher speaks to during what may be the most difficult week of their professional life — suspended, accused by a pupil or a parent, restructured out of a job, or simply in need of somebody to offload a concern to.
This is not a call-handling role. You will hold your own caseload — disciplinaries, grievances, capability, sickness absence, restructures and allegations — advise subscribers in writing and by telephone, correspond with schools, trusts and HR on their behalf, and accompany them to formal meetings and hearings. Our legal team is behind you on the complex matters; the judgements on the rest are yours.

- Employment and/or education law knowledge — training, a qualification, or equivalent practical experience
- Sound judgement under pressure, and complete discretion
- The ability to explain an unwelcome position to a distressed non-specialist, in writing, clearly and kindly
- An understanding of how schools and trusts work, or the ability to learn it quickly
- The ability to work remotely without close supervision, and to keep meticulous case records
- The right to work in the UK without sponsorship, and a full valid UK driving licence
Education experience — especially leadership or pastoral — union or membership casework, advocacy at hearings, and knowledge of the STPCD and Burgundy Book are all particularly welcome.
Two posts, two levels. Both sit in one band. One is likely to suit someone with substantial school leadership, union casework or advocacy experience; the other, someone earlier in their career with a strong employment law foundation and the right instincts.
