The opportunity

We are pleased to advertise an exciting opportunity to join NHS Resolution's Early Notification (EN) team working across the Safety and Learning Directorate as a National Obstetric Clinical Fellow. This post is a fixed-term or secondment basis for one year. 1 post will be available to start from April 2027.

What You'll Be Doing

In April 2017, NHS Resolution launched the EN scheme, since then, all maternity services have been required to notify NHS Resolution of incidents where there is the potential for long-term severe brain injury. The aims of the scheme are:

  • Investigate potential eligibility for compensation and take proactive action to reduce legal costs and improve the experience for the family and affected staff;
  • Share learning rapidly with the individual trust and the wider system in order to support safety improvement and prevent the same things happening again;
  • Build on our Saying Sorry and Being Fair work to ensure the process to obtain compensation is not a barrier to openness, candour and learning;
  • Preserve evidence to ensure we are able to respond to cases that a family may choose to bring at a later date; and
  • Improve the process for obtaining compensation for families, meeting needs in real time where possible and trying to reduce the risk of claims increasing in value due to inflation or unmet needs (such as psychological support) translating into larger losses

This is a unique opportunity to contribute your clinical expertise at a national level, influencing maternity and neonatal safety improvement across England through learning from incidents, claims and patient safety investigations. The role includes reviewing case files to provide a clinical opinion on care and providing feedback to support learning from claims to prevent future harm.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
