National Transport Operations Manager
Ready to lead a large-scale, unionised transport network operation where you can shape business strategy, influence senior stakeholders, and deliver best-in-class safety, compliance, and operational performance across the UK? Are you a strategic National Transport Operations Manager with the experience to drive operational excellence, commercial performance, and customer success across a diverse national contract?
As National Operations Manager, you'll lead the end-to-end delivery of the Valero operation, overseeing a nationally dispersed fuel network. This is a highly visible senior leadership role where you'll balance commercial performance, operational excellence, customer satisfaction, safety, and compliance, while leading large, multi-site teams across the UK.
Working closely with senior customer stakeholders, Trade Union representatives, and GXO leadership teams, you'll drive continuous improvement, influence business strategy, and create a culture where people, performance, and service excellence thrive. Job Details
- Type: Full-time, 40 hours per week, permanent
- Schedule: Monday to Friday (flexibility required for business needs)
- Location: 10 sites across the UK; beneficial to be based in the Manchester/Midlands area
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary: Up to £70,000 per annum
- Leave: 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays)

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end operational performance of the Valero contract, driving service excellence, safety, compliance, and productivity across a nationally dispersed transport network
- Take full accountability for contract profitability, budget management, cost control, and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity, and commercial performance
- Champion a strong culture of health, safety, wellbeing, and regulatory compliance, ensuring robust governance and operational standards are maintained across all locations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with senior customer stakeholders, acting as the key operational lead for contract governance, service delivery, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Inspire and develop high-performing teams while fostering positive Trade Union relationships, leading industrial relations activity, succession planning, talent development, and workforce engagement
Requirements
- Proven leadership experience within transport operations, with a strong track record of managing large-scale, multi-site environments and delivering outstanding customer outcomes (International CPC would be great!)
- Strong commercial acumen, with experience owning budgets, driving profitability, managing operational costs, and identifying opportunities for growth and continuous improvement
- Extensive experience leading operational teams within unionised environments, including stakeholder engagement, collective consultation, negotiation, and industrial relations management
- In-depth knowledge of transport operations, compliance, risk management, and legislative requirements, with the ability to champion the highest standards of safety and operational excellence
- Inspirational leadership skills, with the ability to influence, develop, and engage teams across multiple locations
