Description

The National Sales Manager will lead, develop, and inspire a national team of Respiratory Specialists responsible for driving performance across Primary Care and Secondary Care within the respiratory therapy area. This role is accountable for creating a high-performing, customer-focused sales organisation that delivers exceptional engagement with healthcare professionals and achieves commercial objectives across the UK.

The National Sales Manager will provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and support to the field team, ensuring individuals have the capabilities, knowledge, and resources required to succeed. Through effective performance management, talent development, and field leadership, they will foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous learning, and customer excellence.

Working closely with cross-functional colleagues, the National Sales Manager will ensure the field team is equipped to respond to the evolving needs of healthcare professionals, local healthcare systems, and patients. The role requires a strong understanding of the NHS environment, respiratory disease management, and customer engagement excellence, with a focus on translating business objectives into effective field execution.

As a visible and influential leader, the National Sales Manager will spend significant time supporting the field team in customer-facing environments, developing team capability, sharing best practice, and driving a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and inspire a national team of Respiratory Specialists to deliver commercial and customer engagement objectives.
  • Create and execute national sales strategies aligned with broader business goals within the respiratory therapy area.
  • Drive sales performance through effective leadership, coaching, performance management, and talent development.
  • Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, customer focus, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Ensure successful implementation of national and regional account plans across Primary Care, Secondary Care, and Integrated Care Systems.
  • Monitor sales performance, customer engagement metrics, and market trends to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Develop field force effectiveness strategies, ensuring optimal deployment of resources and territory alignment.
  • Partner closely with Medical Affairs, Market Access, Marketing, Learning & Development, and other cross-functional teams to deliver coordinated customer plans.
  • Support engagement with key healthcare stakeholders, opinion leaders, and decision-makers to strengthen strategic partnerships.
  • Use data, analytics, and market insights to inform decision-making and optimise business performance.
  • Develop succession plans and talent pipelines to support organisational growth and long-term capability building.
  • Lead regular business reviews, forecasting processes, and performance reporting activities.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with industry regulations, compliance requirements, and company policies.
  • Act as a role model for ethical leadership, customer centricity, and organisational values.

Qualification Requirements

Education

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent required.
  • Degree in Life Sciences, Healthcare, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Willingness to travel nationally as required.

Skills & Experience

  • Significant pharmaceutical or healthcare commercial leadership experience.
  • Proven success leading and developing high-performing sales teams at regional or national level.
  • Strong understanding of the respiratory therapy area, Primary Care, Secondary Care, and NHS healthcare structures.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing national sales strategies that deliver sustained business growth.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and talent development capabilities.
  • Experience managing change and leading teams within complex and evolving healthcare environments.
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and build effective cross-functional partnerships.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and strategic planning skills.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to translate market insights into commercial action.
  • Experience using CRM platforms, sales analytics tools, and performance management systems.
  • Highly organised, resilient, and results-oriented with a track record of delivering against ambitious objectives.
  • Strong understanding of account management principles and customer-centric engagement models.
