As a National Security Vetting Officer, you will play a vital role in protecting the integrity and security of the organisation. You will support the delivery of a professional and efficient vetting service by assessing applications, making decisions on low risk cases based on Government Guidance and completing recommendations for complex cases. You will maintain accurate records, helping to identify and manage personnel security risks.

Working with sensitive and confidential information, you will ensure vetting cases are processed consistently, fairly and in line with relevant policies and procedures. You will provide advice and support to applicants, managers and stakeholders, helping them understand vetting requirements and guiding cases through to completion.

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly organised and detail-oriented individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, managing competing priorities and contributing to national security outcomes through high-quality casework and customer service.

Job Description

As a National Security Vetting Officer, you will be responsible for managing vetting cases and supporting the delivery of a timely, accurate and professional personnel security service. You will review information provided by applicants, identify potential issues or discrepancies, maintain secure records and work with colleagues and stakeholders including UK Security Vetting to ensure cases are progressed efficiently.

The role requires sound judgement, strong organisational skills and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and integrity. You will contribute to maintaining high standards of quality and customer service while supporting the organisation's security and risk management objectives.

Key Responsibilities May Include

  • Process and manage national security vetting cases in line with agreed policies, procedures, service standards and legal requirements.
  • Review applicant information, supporting documentation and case records to identify omissions, inconsistencies, risks or issues requiring escalation.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and up-to-date records on vetting systems and ensure all activity is handled securely and confidentially.
  • Provide clear, professional and timely advice to applicants, recruiting managers and internal colleagues.
  • Liaise with internal teams, external partners and vetting authorities to progress cases and resolve queries.
  • Apply sound judgement when assessing routine cases, seeking guidance or escalating complex, sensitive or high-risk matters as appropriate.
  • Support quality assurance activity by checking casework, identifying errors or trends, and contributing to continuous improvement.
  • Help ensure service performance is maintained by prioritising workloads, meeting deadlines and supporting colleagues during peak demand.
  • Contribute to the development of guidance, process notes and team knowledge-sharing to improve consistency and customer experience.

Person specification

Strong attention to detail, with the ability to review information accurately and identify gaps or inconsistencies.

Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain requirements clearly and professionally.

Good organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise competing tasks and meet deadlines

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
